The modern V6-engines in the C-Class range remain unchanged, with a choice of three petrol units developing 150 kW/204 hp, 170 kW/231 hp and 200 kW/272 hp. The six-cylinder of the new C 320 CDI has an output of 165 kW/224 hp. With the exception of the C 350, all models in the new C-Class are equipped with a six-speed transmission featuring AGILITY CONTROL gearshift as standard. The top-of-the-range C 350 has 7G-TRONIC, the world’s only seven-speed automatic transmission, as standard equipment. This is also available for the other six-cylinder C-Class models on request.

Better than I thought, but I still am not sold with stock styling (elegance or avantguard). I bet there will be some nice kits that'll completely change the stance of the car, which at that point may sway me to get one. Right now, I'd only get a C63 if I were gonna get a w204.

i'm definitely passing on the W204.
I hate it. Design sucks... looks like a Toyota Avalon with S Class wanna-be headlights. Horspower sucks !!! oh my God horsepower sucks !
How can they compete with bmw or lexus at that level !?!?!!
interior is crappy. Steering wheels is damn right ugly. I'd have to stare at that anytime I'm driving... plastic, wood, chrome interior is horrendous.
albeit these are EURO model pics, by looking at the rear license plate bezel.
I'm sure the USA versions can't be any better. In fact, knowing what MBUSA does to European models, I can bet that it will look even worse !

I hate the ordinary Opel / Chevy Astra -like front end headlight
I am not enthused by the interioir design too BMW 3-ish with the same kind of disconnection from the center console to the panel, unlike the W203 where the console flows into the panel... I mean look at the lower controls! they are facing completly flat forward and not even angled upwad....
Boy amd I glad I got my W203 with the benzy eyes front end...and the same V6 engine of today!

my thoughts
The w204's are growing on me, they definitely look better then the early spy photos released on the internet. Couple of things:
1) I like the classic grill better then the sport (avantgaurde)
2) A real shame they didn't improve the powerplants, that to me would stop me from buying a new c-class
3) Looks like the car is lighter then the previous gen? around 3k lbs? That's almost unheard of in this day of age.
4) I watched a vid of the w204 being run through its paces (slalom), the chassis behavior seemed to have improved massively.
5) Although a solid improvement on the previous gen, my money is with BMW (a bone stock 330i is too cool for school)

So yes it is underpowered but mb has a new version in the works that uses direct injection and it bumps power to near 300 hp like the others. Likely a year or so into the W204 the engines will be updated. Not an all new motor just updated injection and combustion.

The 335i is actually a step above the current C350. The 350 actually competes directly with the 330i. Of course with the new engines from BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti, MB is now at the bottom of the pack. Mind you this isn't the first time this has happened.
If the weight savings are in fact true however, there will be a substantial difference in acceleration times. Imagine shaving 200 lbs from your current C350, and it will probably hit 60 in the low 5's or even at 5.0 sec. assuming the same drivetrain loss. Now that is IMPRESSIVE.

I had a little hope this one would be a something to desire, but unfortunatelly they didn't even attempt to create something good. Same underpowered engines, unattractive interior and exterior looks like they took a bit of every car on the market. Benz was always the sexiest car on the road, but this w204 looks more like ******* in the family.

Side swoosh = current 3 series
interior = current Passat = current Jetta
Nav screen = 1st gen G35
Clamshell hood = Saab 99 = Saab 900 = Saab 9-3
front = Altima or Accord
Steering wheel = a dispute of whether to make it 2 spoke, 3 spoke or 4 spoke so it went to a commitee and this is what they came up with

Maybe the car is better and handles better but it does not look better.

thanks, i just watched the whole thing minus the artsy crap...
i want to like it but really i hate it, the interior is awful and the grill on the sport sedan looks like it was lifted off the ML, the rear tails are just plain weird.
WTF!!!!!!! W203 for life i guess.

This is an amazing car, I wouldn't rush out and buy a first year model, but I am impressed with the overall looks and am looking forward to driving one. You guys will be on this forum in two years singing its praises no doubt. I can't wait to test drive one.
