Class C250 w204 stuck in Drive, ignition wont start
Discovered the steering lock hadnt released and assumed it was the common steering lock fault but my symtoms seemed slightly different to what i had read online.
Managed to cheat the ignition using the relay for the started in the fuse panel and got into the car. Steering lock had released but then realised despite the gear stick being in the P position the car was still actually in D. When i move the gear stick the dash lights for the gear selection sequence through as you would expect but the car remains in D. I cant get it to select any of the other gears. I was able to drive it home in D ok and it sequenced through 1-5 as you would normally experience no problem just when i parked up again it remained in D.
I put a computer on it at the weekend and got a load of C168 codes relating to the steering lock and also a C141 relating to an error in the transmission control module. I’ve attached a couple of photos to show the codes brought up.
just wonder where to go from here. Do I try to fix the steering lock and see if that rectifies the issue or seeing as the steering lock comes off when I get the car started is this possibly not the issue here. Is it possibly something more serious with the gearbox?
Any help really appreciated!

It seems you had a drained battery at some point causing additional module chaos.
> PRELIMINARY LIST:
ESM, SCM, EIS, ISM, ...
> TRY THIS:
- recharge batteries overnight
- clear faults with scanner
- go drive 5 or 10 Miles
- Rescan ALL modules faults
> BATT TIP:
If don't own a "float charger" buy one and if you do then use it to keep CAN-B Modules from draining your batteries while parked.

Then I restarted car using the starter relay and tried selecting through the gears again still same issues as described above. Then re plugged the computer in and it came up with the above “stored” faults.
Unfortunately car is now parked in a position that I can’t turn it…( I know not a smart move on my part) but because I can’t select reverse I’m going to have to somehow lift the rear wheels off the ground to get it moved.
