Tire Pressure Monitor Inoperative

2013 C300 4MATIC SPORT

Just recently had my tires changed at a shop, still has the same rims, and it still has the same TPMS.

I reset my tire pressure as per the owners manual. I had the "Tire Pressure System Active" message. I had that message most of the afternoon, no change after 30+ minutes of driving to a friends house after I left the shop. Then about halfway home, later that day, it gave me the "Tire Pressure System Inoperative" message after my car sat for 5 hours and hasn't gone away since.

Outside of going back to the tire shop, is there anything else I could try? I tried driving around for a while again just too see if it would away on it own, and it has not.

UPDATE: It went back too "Tire Pressure System Active". I reset the values again, but it still doesn't display the values.

How long does it take for the individual values to appear again instead of just displaying that message? Do I have to take to a dealership?

I can't really find much on the subject with a quick Google Search.

Any help would be appreciated.

My 1st comment is did the shop replace all the parts of the sensors? Its good practice to have them rebuilt whenever the tires are replaced, especially if you live in an area that see snow and salty roads. Ive had sensors that were so corroded the stem just snapped off when I went to remove the cap to put some air in. I dont think this is related to your issue, just throwing this out there. I was able to find the rebuilt kits very cheap at my local auto parts stores. Shrader 20013,

From my experience with the W204 tire pressure sensors they automatically link up on there own, you dont have to do anything for them to work. I once had a tire shop remove and replace 1 sensor and it linked up fine within a mile of driving, and it wasnt even a Mercedes brand sensor, it was a chinese replacement. I have also removed two sensors and installed two new Mercedes brand sensors in my basement and they linked up fine after driving around a bit. Then this last time I had a tire shop replace 1 sensor and rebuilt the other 3 while I had 4 new tires put on and everything worked fine after driving away.

If the shop did absolutely nothing to the sensors, they just replaced the tires then I see no reason for the system to not be working. Silly question but have you confirmed that the original stems are still there? Wonder if they replaced them with regular valve stems.

My Foxwell obd scanner is able to read the tire pressure sensors, I would hook it up and see what I get for faults.

I didn't have them do anything to them, and they didn't do anything to them as far I know.

The original stems are still there. I believe my car is detecting them, because my tire warning light went off after driving around for 10-15 minutes after a reset.

I'm new to this "Owning a Merc" thing, I didn't think of that, Ill see what my scanner says.

If it were me I would just ignore it for a day or two and see if it starts working on its own. Ive had random issues with the tpms before, showed as not working then started again after a day or two. I think it was around the time one of the sensors batteries went dead and I had to replace a sensor.

I have a 2010 so it may work a little different than your 2013. Have you looked in your Operators manual to see what it says? Im looking in mine and there is a section in "Tires and Wheels" about restarting the system. Pretty basic, use the steering wheel functions to go into Service, then Tire Pressure, scroll up or down accordingly.

On your dash can you go into Service, then Tire pressure and see what it shows? On mine if I had just turned on the car this window will say something like Tire pressures will be displayed after driving a few minutes. Does it at least say this?

My Manual says the same thing, Service --> Tire Pressure --> Reset Values --> Drive for 10-15 minutes, and It says this as well: "Tire Pressures will be displayed after driving a few minutes", but it then it just switches too "Tire Pressure System Active". Doesn't display values, and I don't get any warning lights.

I've seen/read other people have similar problems with other Mercs. Some people waited weeks or months for it come back. I'll just wait I guess.

Thanks for the help tho.

Do you have the staggered rims, wider in the rear?

The only thing I can think of after reading thru many other threads on this issue is the tire shop may have switched the wheels around and the system is still trying to figure out exactly where they are on the car. Im pretty sure on mine there is only one receiver and its located under the spare tire. I have no idea how the car figures out where the sensors are located. Some sort of wizardry.

When I had my tires replaced this summer I was very specific about which sensors to rebuild and which to replace so I know they kept the rims where they were originally, plus i have the staggered rims so it was even easier to keep track of where they went. My front tires are 30psi and the rears are 35psi.

I wonder if you can force it to relearn by changing the air pressure of one tire every day. Lower or increase it by 5psi, drive around, see what happens. Im just speculating.

I would go back to where the tires were replaced and tell them the problem. They SHOULD have a TPMS scanner/programmer since they are in that business. Where did you have the tires replaced?

When I had a shop replace a dead sensor he told me that one of the other sensors had low battery life left. I tried looking on my Foxwell scanner and dont see a battery life reading. It does show other things though. Not sure there is an option to input a new sensor number. I have some old photos of when I first got the scanner and was playing around with it. Wonder if I have to drive around to turn the sensors on to get the info.

I wonder what the Launch Creader scanner can show? I am looking for an excuse to get the touch screen version, the Creader Elite V2.0.
