Should I be concerned, M271 C250

hello, I was changing the turbo air intake hose on my m271 c250. The old one broke off and so I had to use my pliers and chip the old one off to put in the new one. During the process a small chunk of rubber fell into the air intake hose on the turbo side. I haven’t started the car yet. Should I be concerned? Maybe I’m overthinking it but don’t want to cause any damag since I’m not sure if there’s a filter to prevent any debris going into the turbo. Any insight would be appreciated thanks. Also it’s very hard to remove the air intake and I tried with no luck and it’s pretty much stuck.

How small of a chunk of rubber? Pinheaded size or larger? Is it hard and brittle like old rubber gets?

As far as I know, there’s no other filter or screen, besides the engine air filter, which will be before the turbo.

You really need to get that piece out before you start the engine. Maybe a cheap borescope from Harbor Freight so you can find the chunk of rubber, then figure out a way to remove it.

It’s the hose I circled in red a small chunk of that, not the whole thing. Can’t remember if it’s hard or not, but most likely somewhat soft.

already ordered that part and installed it. But now I’m having trouble putting the air intake hose back on.

I dunno.....but believe that you are not over thinking this. Any object larger than a pencil point could either hurt the turbo and/or get stuck in a valve? Try to vacuum it out. If you try and start the xar that is taking a big gamble.

Turbo blades are incredibly light and fragile and have tight balance tolerances. I don't know M271 specifics, but at idle the turbo will be spinning at about 20-30,000 RPM. Under load and at speed about 200,000 to 300,000 RPM. If you believe that debris is in the turbo intake pipework then you need to dismantle the system and remove it.

I found no debris after dismantling thankfully, but how do I put the intake hose back on the turbo side.

Lightly lubricate the rubber hose with a thin film of 100% pure aloe vera gel and it will slip right on the connections. As far as I know, aloe vera will not damage the rubber or plastic. Don’t use the sunburn stuff with other “cooling” chemicals like methyl salicylate.

I need to put on the whole hose not just the tiny part. Any other ideas would be appreciated, I would use lubricant but I’m scared that it might be flammable some lubricants at the temperature the turbo reaches.

Not an issue on the inlet side.

It’s 97+% water, so flammability isn’t not an issue. The sunburn ones have things in them that might not be compatible with plastics, notably anything with acetate in the name. Mine is”Soothing Burn Ointment” from a drug store 99.7% aloe leaf + guar gum.

Soapy water works, too.

I ended up putting the hose on with some spare dielectric grease I had laying around. Everything works well now.
