I agree that it displays redundant info, but it is especially nice when driving fast or in heavy traffic and you don't want to divert your gaze from the road. (I'm not totally trusting Distronic yet. )
distronic is good in heavy traffic. I've used it on commutes with heavy to moderate traffic. It handles braking very well. It's not perfect but it does its job of helping you keep a distance and putting you to a complete stop.

The HUD is a feature I wish was in the E. I definitely expect to see it in the W213 coming up next year or so.

I plan to buy so having the vehicle with HUD is worth the price. Sure, 900 bucks is steep but think of it like buying a fancy new iPad
Guess I'm the stupid one. I ended up leasing and getting an E instead

Personally, I don't use it. But this depends on whether you prefer enjoying such gizmo, OR, paying attention to the road, and drive knowing at a given moment what gear/speed you're at.
I didn't have the chance to customize the car, as it came pre-loaded with almost everything. 1K is not bad for small tunes (if interested of course).

I think the E has better noise isolation, compared to the C.

I can't agree. I love the HUD. It's not a gizmo once you get used to it. It has all the important info in front of you right under your line of sight.
It takes a couple of weeks before you start using it properly. But then it's really worthwhile.
And you can use the HUD while paying attention to the road. That's the whole point of it.
Anyway, not sure how you can "guess" what speed you're doing without looking at your speedometer?
I suggest you give it a chance and try it out for a couple of days.

Drove a few Bimmers recently at their Ultimate Driving Experience in DC and they all had the HUD, kinda bummed my C400 doesn't have it. Next car will have the active LEDs, HUD, and the Driver Assistance package for sure.
