Mine: 2014 E550 4matic; Hers: 2016 CLS 400 4matic
Plus the way E classes are sold - a new E-class might be cheaper out the door than the C-class. My E550 was in the mid-60s out the door.

Mercedes will fix that come 2017 with a bigger, pricier E-Class.

I bet when the new I6 engines come along, the 4-cylinder C250 (or whatever) will take that entry spot for a cheap price and the middle car will be an I6 car and so on. Like:

C250 - I4 with 245hp (base price back under 40K)
C300 - Turbo I6 with 300hp
C400 - Turbo I6 with 365hp
C450 AMG Sport - Turbo I6 with 400hp
C63 AMG - With the new 4L V8, 503hp

Just a guess.

That's what the CLA is...it's replacing the previous C as the entry model in the world of MB...

Yeah I know that. I'm not complaining about the new C's price. I think it priced right considering the huge upgrades.

One of the issues in the US has been the lack of a natural price point progression due to the fact that you don't sell the full range. A, B, C, E etc. in this case. In countries that sell the full range the pricing model makes more sense.

Until launch of the CLA stripped down W204's at low margin represented the entry point to Merc for the US.

I hope we aren't seeing the price creep that we saw in the 90's. Sure, they added content but at some point demand is elastic and they are pushing the pricing envelope. The new S didn't go up 25% in price from its predecessor. My dealer has a half dozen C300's on his lot and all are over $50,000. My 2010 C300 4matic was $40,000. 25% jump. I think that when the market cools we'll see very attractive leases in order to make the car more affordable to average buyers- higher residuals and low money factors.

Porsche tops off what they'll residualize on a new car lease. In other words, at some point those expensive options are like last year's clothes- no value.

One can debate that 90% of the features in a benz are not needed.

Ahhh...better to "have" it and not need it than to "need" it and not have it!!

Not familiar w/ some lease terms. What does "tops off" on the residual mean in this context?
