2015 C400 Tune
does anyone know if there is a tune available for the 2015 C400? Just got one and am interested in tuning it. If there is a tune available what are the power gains?
#2
i'm not aware of one.
if there is a tune available I personally wouldn't do it just yet. the car has been out less than a month, and these tuning companies probably haven't had enough time to get it perfect. it might even be more expensive for the early adopters rather than waiting for a fine tuned unit that has been proved

More than likely, you as one of the first owners of the C400 will have to contact one of the MB tuning companies.
I am sure they will be happy you called because if you live near one of them I am sure they would love to borrow your car for a couple days so that they can start working on a tune.
They have to get their hands on a C400 before they can release a tune.

So far, we are hearing rumors of c450 coming out with 362hp?? (rumored) and this car is supposed to have same engine as c400 just tuned ECU. I cant wait to see if you could squeeze more out to around 400HP+
Hopefully some of these C400 guys will chime in.

hey Terry, long time no see. I created a thread in your other car/off topic section of your boards to see if you had any plans for the C400. If you plan to make a tune for this car, then I will definitely buy one now.

Renntech is indeed working on a tune. Spoke to them about a couple of weeks ago and they mentioned it. I didn't get an idea of how far along they are with development though.

if Terry at BMS does come out with a JB tune for the 3LV6 TT.... i'm going to swing for C400
i'm on the fence between
2013 E550 for mid 40's (CPO)
2014 E550 (mid to High 50's) CPO
2015 C400 MRSP at 56k - 5% disccount
Trap speed of the C400 by motor trend at 107... similar to Audi S4 with supercharged 3L and similar to 335i with N55.
at 3850 lbs.. this car is prob putting 300+ AWHP and 320+ AWTQ
With a 40RWHP and 40RWTQ should break 110 to 111 trap speed.. just like a stock E550.
C400 is a better looking overall car.... except for the tail lights. Smaller but not by much and way better interior design than E class.

Poked around last night and there is definitely some tuning potential here. The only question is whether to jump on the AWD model now or wait for the RWD model in a few months.

Some are also saying that the c450 that is rumored to come out will be RWD. That is speculation too.
You could always start early and put out a JB Beta

Hey Terry...RWD C400 is all rumors now. Some of the guys on this forum with good reliable sources are saying that the c400 will not get the RWD.

What would the mod do? Would it play with the fuel mappings or increase the max boost before the waste-gate opens? They can get 350 hp out of a stock VW 2.0t so I imagine an extra 50 -70 should be easy on the m276 dela 30, no? Since this engine is shared across a few models, there should be a good market out there. I'd love a ODBII plug in play solution that would get a c400 to about 400/400.

Actually.. depending on timing, I wonder if tuners would just skip the C400 altogether and just work on the C450 whenever that comes out. If the C400 only exists for one model year, I wonder if there's a justifiable business case. I for one hope so..
Disclaimer: this is all just conjecture (i.e., ***-speak) at this point from me..

It is a myth that the difference between sister models, (eg. c400 and the mentioned c450) is resctricted to CPU mapping only.
Injectors, intercooler, Turbo, intake/exhaustdesign and ducting/piping are usually different from model to model.
When a plug and play box offers 20-40 bhp gain, without chainging any of the above mentioned hardware, the extra power is always gained at top end RPM, and at the expense of low end torque. This is not the case with factory tuning, which will offer a higher power output across the rev band.

To be more precise, the engine in the c400 is actually a detuned version of the m27 dela 30 that is found in the GL450. So in reality the c450 would be getting the same 362 hp mapping from the GL450. Which is interesting because that means the b c400 has a lot of untapped potential and that it should be very easy to bring up to 400~440 hp. In the auto-enthusiast circles, the Mercedes 3.0tt is being called the holy grail of easy to tune engines due also to the stock forged internals and all...

I doubt the difference is mapping only, but will stand corrected of someone can compare the hardware configuration part for part c400/c450
The C200 is a detuned version of the C300. But again i am 99% sure that there will be major hardware differences.
Follwing your logic, the C200 184 bhp. engine is a detuned version of the 355 bhp AMG CLA/GLA engine. (The basis is the same) Obviously the actual hardware differences are massive.
Brabus - whom i think we can agree knows their business - offers a plug and play tuning kit or the C200. It ups power from 184 bhp to 224bph, but at the expense of low end torque. You will notice that they were not able to match the C250 torque of 350nm from 1200 rpm. I attribute this to proof, hat there are hardware differences even from C200 to C250

I'm am curious to see what differences there are between the GL450 m276 dela 30 engine and the c400 m276 dela 30 engine. They look very similar on the intake side. I would love to see if the exhaust side is the same or not and if they use larger turbos. I'm not very familiar with the c200 but if after a tune you are only getting 225 hp from a 2.0 then that is disappointing. The VW guys are easily getting 350 hp from just a chip on the 2.0. Maybe the wastegate is mechanically controlled with a spring instead of an electronic valve. I'm no expert but on my Porsche 944 turbo you either add shims to increase the wastegate spring tension (+30 hp) or swap it out to a vacumm wastegate (+100 hp). If there is no increase of power across the band it would also seem to indicate a fuel map mod with no increase in turbo PSI. Then again, I'm NOT an expert by any means. The c400 is already fast stock so any gains would be double cherries on top.

400 bph is certainly achievable on the engine, but it is highly doubtful, that this number can be reached by engine mapping alone.

Here is a stock vs. tuned dyno of our 2015 M3 JB4.

Just looked up on the c200 vs c300 and it seems that the turbos are not the same on both so that would explain the difference. I'm not finding anything about the c300 vs GL450 engine turbos...

I hope you change your mind on tuning the V8 TT. Your JB can yield tunes for the M157 and M278.. That's a big community.
Would be nice to see what type intercooler set up it C400 has and see if that will be another road block for more power.
Let's push the development on this engine.

Hi Terry, I'm really excited to see you on here and that you're interested in developing a tune for the C400.
I owned a 335i a few years ago, and had the JB3 tune on it...the car was a beast. If you do bring out a tune for the C400 I'd be one of the first customers lined up to get one!!
