C220 AMG - confort or sport suspension?

Hi all,

My name is Roberto and I own a W204 C200 CDi. I leave in Switzerland.

I've already orderd the new W205 C220 BlueTech and I now need to confirm the options.. however i've got a terrible doubt on the suspension!

I opted for the pack AMG. I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but here by default you have the so called "confort" suspension. However you can decide to put the sport ones "15mm lower" (with no additional cost).

Is there any big differences between the 2? So far i've only been able to try cars with Airmatic systems. Honestly i would easly solve my doubt but the option is about 1900.- CHF.

Do you think the sport ones will be less confortable than my actual car?

The reason why I don't choose the confort suspension is that I think, from an aesthetilcal point of view, that the car is too high for a AMG style..

I know I should try both but I don't have enought time to do so..

Thanks for your help.
cheers.

In terms of esthetics, the wheel gap on the comfort suspension would bother me a lot if it was fixed that way. I've test driven a car with the sport suspension and I didn't find it too rough at all with that 18" wheels/tires. It was stiff enough to take corners and not go nose up while accelerating, but no so harsh as to worry about going over road bumps. The sport hight also looks "right" with a moderate drop over the comfort height. Airmatic I think is the best solution if you can afford it. I have also heard that the repair cost on airmatic is astronomical....

yes, you're right. It looks like a boat in comfort.

So we can say it's comparable to the C200 AMG styling of last year with the sport suspension?
I took a pic of both cars. On the left my car, on the right hand side the one i tested (with Airmatic). The new one seems higher than the old.

I would go with the standard hight. Afterall you are not buying a sportscar. You are buying a Compact luxury sedan with a rather noisy and not at all sporty 4 cyl. Diesel motor

Sure you're not buying a sports car but I assume you like to drive and also spend money on things that look quality too.

There is no way I could buy mine without sports suspension so I wouldn't opt out just out of logic

right. My concern was more about the driving comfort compared to last year AMG version.
I've haven't seen yet an AMG with comfort suspension to see how it look like.

But yet you stated in your earlier post, that "it looked like a boat"

I have purchased Airmatic with my AMG because sport suspension is really great but for sporty ride, it is stiff, take corners easy, but you feel all the road imperfections. With Airmatic well it stays stiff and lowered but it deals with all road imperfections and gives you really comfy smooth ride. That what I actually love about it, really worth money I think.

Go the lowered. I ordered the same thing.

Airmatic is a concern for longevity (ie repair costs) swiss roads and European roads in general are pretty good compared to Australian ones.

The standard setup has selective dampers so you can still stiffen or loosen the damp rate (like the 204 adaptive suspension)

And it will look sweeter on the multi spoke 19s (665 code)

Your right. That's what my dealer passed onto me. I played around with a dealer car in the weekend and no selection on suspension unless you have AIRMATIC. Apologies for the bum steer.
