About To Dip My Toes Into Mercedes Ownership.

Hey guys, I just placed an order for a C300 4Matic with anticipated December/January delivery . I've previously owned Audis and BMWs (currently drive an M3) but I've never really been too keen on a Mercedes until I laid eyes on the new C-Class. I've spent countless hours building various configurations on mbusa.com and finally nailed down the specs -
Iridium Silver
Sport Black MB-Tex
Linden Wood
Premium Package
Lighting Package
Hands-Free Access
Panorama Roof
Rear View Camera
Heated Front Seats
19" AMG Multi-Spoke Black Wheels
Sport Package

Now the search begins for some good winter tires...I know it's slim pickings out there.

I have the Iridium with Premium and Multimedia, but not the Sport. I also went with black MB-Tex but with the burl walnut trim.

The car looks very classy in Iridium and, much to my surprise, the MB-Tex looks and feels like textured leather. It doesn't smell like leather at all, but it does not look like some cheap vinyl cover on the seats.

The Panorama roof is impressive, and the simplest sunroof I've ever operated.

The car, even with the standard suspension, handles well and tackles rough surfaces with aplomb.

This is a very well balanced car, and both enjoyable and comfortable to be in. It does have some MB quirks and oddities, but that's part of the learning curve and ownership experience.

Good luck and stay patient.

Thank you for your feedback, it's always nice to hear an owners impression. To be honest with you though, I wouldn't buy this car without the Sport Package, I know it's all a matter of preference but the front and rear fascias on the Luxury model are too plain for my tastes. I wanted to stay around $50k MSRP so I chose to add the options that would interest me rather than what's best for resale...I'm probably going to lease it for three years anyways.

Blizzak WS80 or Michelin X-Ice xi3. Aim for skinny for the winter....215/50-17 if you can find the right wheels around 7.5" wide. That is based on my experience with the immediately prior generation model, which I just sold.

Thanks for the reply but I'd prefer to find tires to fit the 19"s...I know that's a tall order but I've got a couple of months to do my research.

OK...good luck. I don't think there's anything in the studless category in that size. Probably the best you can do are Blizzak LM32 or LM60 so I hope you live near only moderate snow! "Performance winter" tires are a compromise.

I'm in Denver...I drove my M3 last winter with All-Seasons so I'm not too worried about it, as long as I don't venture up to the mountains.

I have a C400 with the 19" multi spoke black wheels. I just bought the Pirelli Sottozero serie II winter run flats. They are the only winter run flats that either my dealer or I could find that fit the staggered wheel combo on the C400. Many have suggested getting smaller wheels or non run flat tires. A personal choice I guess. I'm getting them put on this Saturday.

Congrats CaptSlow! Which 'decade' (10 day period of the month MB slates build) is your car scheduled to be built for the estimate they gave you of late December/early January? I understand the plant completely shuts down for a week (maybe two), including deliveries for Christmas.

Thanks! I'm very excited as you could imagine..."decade"? I haven't heard of that term before when discussing the delivery. I'm not sure when it's going into production, just stating what the dealer told me when to expect delivery. I guess I could ask though.

When they spec out your vehicle it will be assigned to a decade. It would read to dealer for example 3rd decade of November (meaning built in last 10 days of the month). In theory there won't be a 3rd decade in December as they shut down. I have no idea how long the cars take to get from build to dealer is why curious how they came up with your date. Congrats again.

Congrats, looks like a nice spec! I really like the Open Pore Wood but I think we'll see a lot of people opt for it, that's part of the reason I went with Linden Wood. I mean afterall I've ordered a Silver/Black german sedan and that aint exactly unique, lol.

Congrats!.. I think you can ignore my suggestions to consider the CLS AMG on your other thread then seeing as you already ordered, haha.

With good reason, it looks great! Maserati offers a similar trim in the Ghibli.

My dealer was kind enough to allow me a 48 hour test drive (didn't have to, I've already ordered the car) and luckily the loaner they gave me was an Iridium/Black Sport pkg car

My wife really liked the car but suggested we go with Black Ash trim (like what was in the loaner)...I called the dealer but it's too late to change. Oh well, I'm totally happy with Linden Wood

In Canada, it's called Alpine Fine Line...makes just as much sense to someone as Linden Wood

I just picked it up on Saturday. I debadged the rear and tinted to 20%. I thought about matching the tint of the pano roof but that would've meant 35% and it was too dark for my taste. I'll post a couple of photos tomorrow.
