This crash test on the W205 still amazes me

I know it has been posted before, but it still amazes me how well the cage held up....

Waiting for the IIHS one in the US...

This is one reason why I'm getting a W205. Most likely in in AMG form :-), but haven't decided yet.

Most cars already get 5 star ncap ratings. Just waiting to see the IIHS small overlap...

The new offset frontal impact test, that catches the car at an angle, is the one that most manufacturers are having trouble with. They show an offset hit in the video, and the results do look good.

I'm still waiting to see how the W205 rates when the US numbers come out. With its new design, it should do very well ... I hope.

I don't feel too impressed. Most car manufacturers have been acing the NCAP tests for a while. The IIHS small overlap is the new bar to be surmounted. The W204 didn't do too well on that one, but it didn't fail as so many others older designs did. If Mercedes is to maintain its reputation, it has to ace it with this completely new design. Anything else would be a failure.

^^ great thing about MB is that they never waited until the redesign to make changes to their vehicles to better perform in the small overlap test. If you go to the IIHS youtube channel, you will see that the W204 gets poor, and then in 2012, gets a marginal score. They also did the same to the M class, and E

Well we sure hope that with this complete redesign its nothing less than good. Most newly designed cars are at least passing now. "The best or nothing" is the mantra after all.
