Hardwire dashcam and radar

Hardwire dashcam and radar
Just bought a C400 a month ago and I ordered a dashcam and a radar for my car.
My original plan was to hardwire the dashcam and radar to the fuse box on the passenger side. But then I figure out that fuse box doesn't have the 12V (accessories) wire that disconnect when I turn off my car.
Now I am thinking about wiring it to the fuse box on the dashboard side. Have anyone tried to open the dash fuse box before? I really have trouble opening it.
On the other hand, my backup plan is to use a Battery guard 12 V/DC on the passenger side fuse box and set it to shut off around 12.2V range.
Another plan would be wiring it to the top with all the lights and switches, but I need to think about how to open it up also.
Any hardwiring expert can help?

You don't necessarily have to go to the fuse box to tap into switched power. There are several different options. Most vehicles use switched power for the cigarette outlets as well as the radio turn on wire. Either one of these circuits carries sufficient power for the job and will not cause damage if tapped into. All you need is some wire taps which can be purchased at any autoparts store.
Depending if you mount the camera up by the mirror, running the wires could be the most difficult part of your task.

Keep us posted on how you manage to do this. I've got a Blackvue in my current car and am keen to put the same kind of system in the Benz as well. They make something similar called a PowerMagic Pro (http://www.sportgps.com.au/power-magic-pro.html)
I'm very confident in wiring into car circuits but the Merc somehow scares me. I can image the wiring harnesses will be wrapped up pretty good, plus - who knows how to get the interior paneling apart without damage. It'll be interesting to see how and where you find an appropriate wire to tap into.

I was thinking about to tap in like this one:

but the radar have a mute switch that I would like to have it in another position.
On the other hand, hiding wires around the the windshield, doors and panel is pretty easy.
Still looking for pictures/videos of people taking off top panel or dash fuse box cover.

Does the glove box have a 12V like the W204? My dash came is simply mounted to the windshield, with the wire tucked under the headliner, under the trim piece/door seal of the A pillar. With the passenger door ajar, its easy to pull off the trim piece that leads to the glove box.

one in the center, the other one in the rear center. Both I have no idea how to reach the back of it.

I don't think you can easily get to the back of either of these 12V outlets (front or rear).
I like the details from the Escort 9500 install, and invisicord.com looks reasonable. Would be nice to hear from someone who has hardwired their radar detector into a W205 C-Class.

C220 Sport Premium Plus (W205)
USB solution
I installed a dashcam in my C220 a few months ago. (The actual camera I installed was a Mini 0806).
Although I originally intended to hard wire it back to the fuse box, I tried the supplied cigar lighter power cable, just to have a play with the camera.
Hiding the wiring was no problem, as I mounted the camera near the rear view mirror, ran the cable under the head lining, down the inside of the door pillar trim, across the underside of the footwell and finally under the edge of the center console side trim, to within easy reach of the cigar lighter socket. (Right Hand Drive - UK spec vehicle).
The only downside was the fact the last bit of cable looked unsightly hanging out of the front stowage compartment before disappearing under the trim, plus I had to leave the compartment lid open when using it.
It then occurred to me that I also had a USB cable that came with the camera - and 2 USB ports in the center console rear stowage compartment !
I promptly stripped out the first cable and replaced it with the USB lead. This got me from the camera all the way back to the rear of the center console, ending up hidden from view in the gap between the drivers seat and the center console. I needed another 1m or so of cable to reach the USB port and all I could find at the time was one of these small USB hubs that has a retractable cable on a tiny reel. This proved to be a stroke of luck, as the cable is so small that it allows the stowage compartment covers to be closed, without any risk of crushing the cable.
This has ended up being my permanent solution, as the hub is hidden between my seat and the center console, and the 6 inches or so of cable going into the stowage compartment is virtually invisible unless you really look for it down the side of the seat.
If you wanted to do this with a single cable, you would need a 4m cable, but I doubt that the covers would close and it would be so much more visible.
This all works perfectly for me - the USB port activates as soon as you unlock the vehicle, hence turning the camera on, and switches off when you leave and lock the vehicle, with the camera turning off a minute or so later.
I've got a hard wire kit and fuse tap going spare now, if anyone still wants to do it the hard way !!

If there is any interest in this still, I managed to run my Thinkware F750 2ch dashcam using the dash mounted fuse box.
It's a shorter run and I was able to get both Constant and accessory power there.

Just want to ask, my car is C250 and my car accessories installer pull the uninterrupted fuse cable to the front fuse compartment. The wire is too short to pull to the bonnet fuse. However he change the 5A amp for analog (if I remember correctly from fuse map) to 15A..Is this OK?

I just DIY'd my V-1 into my 2917 C300 coupe and assuming that the driver side fuse box is essentially the same as that in the sedan, you will find that the glove box fuse works very nicely...on and off with the ignition.

care to share which fuse you tap it? a picture would be nice. Tq.

You'll find the fuse map at post #4 (https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-fuse-map.html). You can try this first (
FuseMap.pdf ). The fuse for the glove box is fuse 216. Good luck.

Bit Late in on this one, I installed a Joo vuu x into my c300 M205, the front Fuse box does not have switched 12v only permanent, I went to the Boot fuse bot to wire my Multi Safer, seems the better option if you want the camera on for a pre-defined time when main Acc is off.

I don't know what fuse to connect the Red and yellow wires to in my 2013 C300 🤷🏽*♂️
I have the F750.
Can you help me?
im only using the "hardwire kit " that thinkware sells.
