First impression: bloody awesome
Second impression: still awesome.
I cannot believe the detail in this car. It even has a wifi hotspot! Oh, and there's a thread on how to change radio stations. Try two fingers upwards on the touchpad. Awesome!!!!!

Well I'm still waiting on my car to get here - although my ship arrived on the 26th, there's been some ongoing delays to get it to the dealer. Anyway, a long story short I was very close to canceling my order; I had a 528i lined up for delivery on Tuesday in case things continued to go pear shaped. As some of you may know, the delay wasn't my only issue; my car got built with the incorrect trim.
I'm happy to report though that.the dealer has fully supported me today and resolved all my concerns and issues. We agreed on swapping out the trim and they will order a vehicle in from stock which has the open pore wood, so it shouldn't be all that long to get things sorted. They will also provide me with free tinting in combination with that work. On top of that they have given me a C200 in Hyacinth red (has Vision & Comand) as a loan vehicle until my car is ready.
I'm really really glad things are back on track, because after driving this car again I know I've made the right choice in sticking it out. The W205 is an absolute cracker! Sure its not as spacious and not as quiet perhaps as the 5 series, but it is absolutely wonderful and I've got no regrets for picking it instead of the Beemer. I'm very much looking forward to getting the finished article
On a side-note, we talked about QA & build issues and the dealer had never heard of the big 2 dramas that are affecting the W205 (namely the bleeding seats issue and the rear bumper not fitting properly).
Glyn, you'll be sad to hear that SA cars are as much of a problem it seems as the US built ones. Here's how it sits on the loaner:
Right side is better than left and neither is tragically bad I suppose, but they are certainly not up to standard. We had a look at the cars he had in the showroom and all of them were different in terms of the bumper fitment. I know it's been said many times before now, but this is not just an assembly QA issue. There's definitely a design fault with how the bumper and clips have been made.
The MB factory certainly has work to do to seek improvements on that front. He's promised to keep an eye out for it once my car arives and sort it out if its not right.

Yes. That does not make me happy. As I said I've had two stories. I still have to get to the bottom of why all the cars on my dealer floor are fine. Hopefully the local plasticware now used in production will have fixed this. Aus, UK & SA cars are coming off the same line.
Is that even left to right? Bit difficult to see. It's almost as thought they are trying to align a step to agree with the chrome trim. On my dealer's floor stock the plastic is aligned to the metal fender which I believe to be correct??????
Any other build irritations noticed?

Thanks:
East London was always Jurgen Schrempp's baby & he was truly proud that it frequently beat up Bremen & Sindelfingen on QC. My C240 & the W202 I had before that were faultless as an example.
MBSA reads this forum but I shall see that they are notified.

Glyn, until you lay your own eyes (and camera) on the cars at the dealer I wouldn't be so sure that they are perfect. Clearly there is a manufacturing defect at work here that requires actual modification of fasteners to get the bumpers to align properly. In fact, the pics above appear to show one of the worst cases of the tail lights being out of adjustment.

Some of the owners on this board would be driving Toyota Corolla's in SA or Aus.

Lol Glyn, tell me about it. 75k for a C200 almost fully loaded. I just got in under the LCT.
Still, it's all relative.I am very
happy with my car. A few issues but being sorted by the dealer next week.

Lol. Not quite. I just priced out an RSA w205 the other day, and it was within 5% of a similar specced US model, after the exchange rate conversion. Now whether my salary would convert 11 to 12 fold as well is a whole different story.

Precisely ~ it costs far fewer months salary in the US to buy a Benz. Of course Benz is not giving the cars away in the US the way they did with W204 any longer where margins were paper thin..

C250 W205 in Polar White
Here she is......
Picked up last Friday.
C250 AMG line with Command, Vision, Seat Comfort Package and Air Balance as well.
The car is totally AMAZING. Better than I expected.
The only problem I have so far is the bumper misalignment as detailed in other thread by other forum members. **sigh**
My C250 was built in SA so I guess the problem is not limited to US built W205s.

Congrats to all. I see some 205s finally hitting the road.
I also notice a preference for white. I myself have the polar white with AMG line and the car pops. Black roof, black AMG rims, and handsomely good looking.
The 2L engine is so smooth and responsive. It is chalk and cheese to the OM651 engine in the 204 I believe. (My previous car)
I will try and get some pics up.

I've had a couple of long trips- up north to Kalbarri and south to Margaret River and never missed a beat. Daily commute is about a 70km round trip, so I've done almost 10, 000 km since mid January and have had no mechanical issues.
I have a light beige interior (Artico/MBtex)with the piano gloss console and both are holding up well. I clean and treat the Artico with aerospace 303 which works really well and use a soft micro fire glove for the console.
I have copped a couple of paint chips so I ordered some dr colourchip and will have a crack at that over the weekend.
Overall I am very happy with the car and enjoy driving her....especially sport+
