I saw something interesting on YouTube, the owner of the C200 was showing the underside of his car and it looks like the exhaust tips on his car are 'fake' in-so-much that they don't actually connect to the exhaust, with the actual exhaust pointing downwards?
Is this due to a trim level/options or is that how they are for all C200s? I'd be interested in the answer...
BTW, this guy has some really good videos on the W205 and shows all the features. It's great if you want to get to know more about the car while it's being built or before ordering.

As you are in the UK it might be different. SA builds a hybrid spec for UK because you chose not to sell the the Exclusive. It's possible that some Sport models below the 250 might come with active exhausts. You will have to ask.
I'm commenting on standard SA production that is aligned exactly with the 2 German plants.

Thanks for the information Glyn.
The C250 (petrol) isn't available in the UK so the only current non-C63 petrol available is the C200. It would be a bit strange to have the only petrol engine and a vanity panel.
Perhaps the UK petrol-heads can have a look to confirm what is actually happening under their cars, otherwise I will check myself when I'm next at the dealer...
Yes it will, however the cover is "hidden" further in the exhaust tip.
Thanks Eilers
Vic, can you explain a little more? Do you mean that the actual tips are not directly connected but the covers slot over the actual exhaust. i.e. the tailpipes are just covers? If that's the case then I expected this - much like the R8 and Honda Civic.

Yeah! ask your dealer. We don't see UK spec cars here. All SA C180, C200 & diesels have the vanity panel. It actually looks great in the flesh & you don't have exhaust crap to clean off.
Of course personally I would like active exhausts.
Standard vanity on base models & diesels:
Sport vanity not active (look carefully & you will see the grills in the pipes):
The C250> sport active:
The Exclusive active:
The AMG genuine C63S obviously active:
There might be slight variations on this by market ~ much like BMW USA vs ROW.

Thanks Glyn - very informative. I would personally want them to be active.
Anyone have the C200 (petrol) in the UK want to check that the exhaust tips? It would save me a trip to the dealers & me getting on all fours! Appreciated.
I could be wrong here, but the last time I was at the global training center I asked about those covers and I was told they are fitted to the Bluetec Diesel Engines as the exhaust temperatures during the particulate filter cleaning cycle get so high that they could melt parts of the bumper.

Vic ~ while I can't be sure, that makes sense. With the particulate regen unit things get damn hot! With base model gasoline vanity it is cost saving.
Vic, I know that in general diesel cars do have downward facing exhaust tips (I'm not to sure about the exact reason, perhaps soot?) so it makes sense to have the vanity cover on these models if the tip needs to point down. I'm hoping that the AMG C200 in the UK is actually an active exhaust. From reading around online somewhere suggested that the vanity cover is for the lower trim levels.
There is no soot in a modern diesel, you could drive 5000km.s with a 220 CDI Bluetec, and wipe a white cloth in the exhaust tip without a single sign of dirt or soot.
Easy there, there are c200 with dual exhaust also. i guess there are local variations.
Edit: Apparently the Fuel Tank on Diesels will (currently) not allow enogh room for an exhaust in the right side. So no active dual exhaust for diesels.
All the "Active" exhausts look like the ones in the pictures above, they have to as the design tips are mounted solid in the bumper and the exhaust system is a moving part, therefore all systems look like this.
I was asking specifically about the gasoline/petrol model.
Thank you Eilers. I'm hoping this is also the case in the UK.
No worries. I know you guys do not have the Exclusive line until MY16, but for the standard line, It should also be possible at any dealer, to order the dual type exhauss as in the photos. As i understand it, for a premium with C180/C200 and optional at no extra charge with C250.
This is handy if you want to retrofit a BRABUS or Carlsson body kit to a standard model.
