LD McCauley was a big NASA contractor and had international ventures as well. If you want your bolts made from one place or another, you have the choice. I'm sure other companies make them. Either way, a professional crook will care less.

I'm no mechanic and haven't tried this, but this came up on a quick search. Any guess if it's for real? (And no worries on me starting a new side line of work. )

Not sure I understand here, are you saying that the OE Mercedes locks, packaged in a black plastic box with a white and blue label actually are made by the contractors you mention?

Or are your dealer just selling the cheaper McCauley/McGard branded locks and saying they are the same as OE?

@miketc

There are several methods of removing locks, the first tried and easiest (wich often separates the cheaper locks from the high end) is to use a long socket (19-22mm)and a heavy sledge hammer, many cheaper locks have bad or thin hardened edges making the socket stick and removal is easy.
Drilling will also reveal bad hardening
The last resort is to weld a nut to the bolt, this will almost always work but can damage the wheel if not done properly.

Again, the OE locks are by far the hardest to enforce, McGard is no match this is why I am pretty confident that they are NOT the same, there is always a reason for something being cheap.

Ferrari, Lexus, Toyota
I hope never to have to have them removed with damage to the rim. It'd be hard to do that when the cost would be more than the rims trying to protect.

This is why you should never loose your key, or the code document attached with OE locks.

The best method for removing locks no matter how hardened they are is to use a cheap, soft socket that will deform and grab the lock when hammered on.
