4. Those that don't clunk... Maybe

I had bad 5-4 downshift clunk
It's inherent in the 7g tronic and can't be dialed out.

I agree ... All efforts are put toward the 9g but keep in mind the 9g is essentially based on identical architecture as the 7g... The 7g apparently was designed to accommodate 2 more gears as someone rightly mentioned above

Well that is not entirely true, I recently had global training on the new 725.011 transmission and I can tell you there is nothing similar to the old 722.9 7G transmission
The basic planet gear principal may be the same but there is not a single bolt from the 7G that will fit the 9G.
Only time will tell how the 9G will work but it seems very promising.

btw the 722.9 transmission is still under a lot of attention, the technicians havnt abandoned it just becused they have released a new tranny.

My transmission is OK.

If I'm in Comfort, and I'm just accelerating from 0 - 30, 45, or 60 gradually, there is absolutely not sensation of the transmission shifting.

Sometimes in low gears the car will jerk if I lift off the gas pedal in low speeds.

In Sport or Sport + The transmission really goes jerk jerk jerk when you put the torque to work, but that's to be expected...

I had hard downshifts from 5th to 4th but only when cold. Converter replacement helped, and it got 80% better. As soon as the engine is 60 degrees this problem is gone.

Is the 8 gear transmission used by BMW better? Or do they have other issues?

Does anyone's transmission shifts really harshly from Parked to Reverse on cold start? Mine jolts the car pretty hard when the RPM is over 1k rpm when I shift from Park to Reverse. If I let the engine warm up until RPM drops to 750 rpm then it's totally smooth.

I have that also, and had it in my 210, 211 and 212.
I always let the engine get below 1000rpm before I set off.

So is this typical for all MBZ or only certain cars do this?

I have been having problems when the car down shifts from 5th to 4th. It doesn't do it all the time but is kinda annoying when it does. It seems like the car doesn't rev-match. Now some times if I turn off the car and turn it back on it goes back to normal.
