A lot of people that reviews cars, have egos much bigger then their talents. People with big egos and less talent, prefer to be able to drive a car on track, basically with the accelerator pinned between corners. They want to be able to slam the throttle, because that's the manly thing to do. (they have seen this at the Movies)

When they get into a car where they can't do this, - they get scared. Then their ego dictate the logic that the car must be overpowered.

Horst Von Saurman's Supertest, has been regarded as the benchmark by the industry for many years now. He still does it, even though he retired from Auto Sport.

The numbers speaks for themselves. The SLS AMG completed the Supertest as fast as the equivalent Porsche and Ferrari.

Stating that the SLS AMG is "Pathetic on a track" just proves my point abouthe author of that remark gets his "insight" from TV shows and articles on the internet.
And you are just watching Horst Von Saurman's Supertest. Put it on a tight technical track & it's a lumbering beast. It does NOT have the finesse of a Ferrari or Porsche. It's a sledgehammer.

What you simply don't get is that the Porsche did it with 324 kW while the SLS required 420 or 435 kW dependent on model to achieve the same thing. (if it was a Black Series SLS 464 kW). Says a lot about that beautiful Porsche chassis. Do you comprehend??

That would obviously be an Americentric muscle car perspective. I must say that since Camaro have removed the rear cart axle & fitted the Australian designed & built IRS things have improved greatly. And it's beautifully compact. Designed by HSV (Holden Special Vehicles). One would hardly want Corvette DNA in any Benz.

It has been the subject of focus groups. BTW ~ there have also been many reports of this if you choose to do some research. I happen to have been a focus group member. And yes I happen to have friends in the organisation due to longterm business relationships in my international job. Read my profile.

Let's suppose both the 997 GT3 and SLS AMG were top dogs of the lineups of their time made accessible to the general market. Each had their own different design priorities.

The SLS with the gullwing design goes after the style, at the expense of performance by adding weight at the top. And both models had identical power to weight ratio, before we even discuss chassis and the handicap of the SLS.

So they did equally well on lap times is a plus for SLS under the above constraint. Imagine the 997 was designed to have heavy lifting doors what would happen to it.

We can suppose many things. The argument is hypothetical & thus illogical. They are what they are.

The Porsche & the Ferrari are finely honed to handle well. The SLS is a sledgehammer that has to make up on the straights with power what it looses in cornering & handling finesse due to weight & a compromised chassis.

Not at this level of supercar, they are all fast. There is no way that the SLS runs and hides from a GT3 only to lose it in the corners. Acceleration numbers are all pretty similar at that level, maybe power delivery or other characteristics may have a slight impact out of corners, but not I enough over 133 or whatever corners to matter.

I think you will gain more credibility if you use facts, not just conjectures.

Also I don't throw around big words unless I know what they mean.

Like "hypothetical", without pointing out what part you believed was hypothetical.

And does "hypothetical" automatically lead to "illogical"? Where did you learn that?

Yes ~ he's a fine driver. But even with him driving it get's out of shape & lays down huge amounts of rubber. A Ferrari would not do that.

Anyway ~ here's holding thumbs for Lewis Hamilton Sunday.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Fact: An SLS BS can pull more lateral Gs than a GT3 RS, you read so much, look it up. The Porsche will outbrake the SLS, no questions asked and you are correct that is directly related to weight. The SLS will outpull the Porsche in every gear and from any speed. Not to be spliting hairs but the SLS BS lapped the Ring over a half second quicker than the GT3 RS 4.0. As for the chassis, I have driven both cars at speed on a track (Daytona) and the SLS is the more planted and stable of the two, the only time you can upset the chassis on the SLS is during braking under extreme duress. The Porsche actually lacks finesse and is twitchy if you get on the throttle to hard too early where as the SLS is more managable if you get on the gas too hard and early, I attribute this to the longer wheelbase, the SLS is simply a much more predictable car. Unlike you I have driven both cars and own one of them so you can keep spouting off about stuff you have read but I have actually done it and not just read about it.

On a tight track an SLS BS is not going to excel, Depending how tight a GT3 may take it. But more often than not the SLS BS will beat it around a circuit.
All he needs to do is research official Nurburgring lap times and he will see that the SLS BS turned a 7:26.40 and the all mighty GT3RS 4.0 (rare limited production GT3) turned a sligtly slower 7:27.02....a run of the mill GT3 ran at a snails pace 7:33.20, nearly 8 seconds off the pace of the SLS BS

Also of note a plain Jane SLS GT beat the run of the mill GT3 around the ring too.

Mr. Ruck needs to get back into reality.

Not sure what this has to do with a C450 lol, pretty sure both cars will lap a C450 in just a handful of laps lol.

The Nordschleife is not a tight track. I have driven both cars but on the tight Killarney race circuit. I'm sure I'm not as good a driver as your self proclaimed competence. But I have seen a range of Porsches, Ferraris & the SLS driven by fine drivers on the same Killarney circuit & the SLS does not feature with all it's power. It's a lump.

So you believe what you wish & I will continue with my thinking. Truce!

Let other members take this thread back on track. The complaints are building up against you again from members.

EDIT: BTW lateral G in isolation is not predictor of cornering speed.

Lol, me? feisty? Do you still have the C55? We are headed out to Autobahn in a few weeks weather permitting, you should come out, Saturday after Easter I believe, my GT-S should be delivered earlier that week, althoug I have been on the fence about buying it with all this AMG garbage recently.
