Can the C300 be towed without the "tow eye"
I had to tow my car recently due to a flat. They towing company had use the towing eye (spelling) that is in the trunk. The tow guy said the car can't be towed without it. So, if that's the case, if a tow company didn't have access to the trunk could they tow the vehicle? Would this be something the towing company would have on hand?
From the manual:
"Secure the tow rope or tow bar to the
towing eye only. Otherwise, the vehicle
could become damaged."
Too many damn parking tickets!

They usually carry an array of different tow hooks, most of them use the same thread and are interchangeable. It is not possible to winch the car without it.

Gimmie a break. What do you think happens in an emergency situation (parked in front of a fire hydrant) or if there is some type of repo involved?
Tow guys prefer to use a tow-eye because it is so much easier for them, and can reduce potential damage if they are not careful towing by other means.
Towing companies in the US will use a j-hook attached to something solid (front/rear axle, engine sub frame, etc.). Flat bed comes down, winch unwinds, jhook connected, winched, flat bed horizontal again, and your off. Takes 5 minutes tops.

So where is the eye hook...I looked in my trunk (where the manual says it should be) and I don't see one.
