Climate Control button question

I feel pretty stupid asking this, but I don't have any other way to check/troubleshoot this scenario.

If I turn my climate system off completely using the fan speed switch (red arrow), I can turn it back on again by hitting any of the buttons to the left of the central menu button.

But once I turn off the car (with the climate system off), the fan speed switch stops working.

What I mean is I can turn the climate system back on by hitting any of the buttons. Except the fan speed switch. It doesn't respond to touch/turn system on etc at all. Nothing

But once I turn the system on with a different button, the fan speed switch works normally again.

Anyone else notice the same idiosyncrasy?

YES! thank you for bringing this up. Except I haven't been able to figure exactly when it does and does not work. If the fan is running and I turn it off using the fan speed switch, sometimes it doesn't let me start it up again using that switch. I have to go into COMAND and turn the climate control on. Other times it works. I am really confused by this

Will hitting AUTO turn it back on? That's usually how I turn it on anyhow.

Where'd the MAX Cool button go??

I have the same issue!! I can't believe they got rid of the MaX Cool button. That was the best feature in my GLK I thought especially in the very hot So Cal where I live. I feel like there is a HUGE lag where the AC just does not turn on and it's a pain to get it to pump out fast cold air

Hitting anything left of the larger middle menu button other than the fan speed button will turn it on.

Just trying to figure out if this is "normal", or my car has a malfunctioning Fan speed button.

My car does the same thing rusty. This morning it was a cool 42 degrees so I did not have the air on obviously. I left it parked at work and when I got back to my car it was 75 outside and about 95 inside the car. My fan speed switch will not turn on the air. I have to hit the ac switch or auto switch to turn it on

Also, if I hit the Sync or AC button to the right of the main menu button, they also turn the system on.

It just seemed counterintuitive to me that the one button that makes the most sense to turn the system on with (the one you turn it off with) doesn't let you turn it on. German "logic"?

Glad to see that it is functioning "normally". Just another thing to get used to. Thanks to the other respondents.

We can call it "normal" if we want since we all have the problem, but this seems like a programming error to me

In the UK if you switch it off and then switch ignition off none of the buttons work.

When you switch the ignition to stage 1 the climate comes back on but doesn't do anything.

Switch ignition to stage 2 and the climate then is off and I can switch it on using any button but fan shows as stage 1 unless I hit the auto button.

Seems to work as it should in the UK

This sounds like an expectation rather than a problem. Just use another button to bring it on and then adjust the fan speed.

Auto button and AC

Should pressing the Auto button when the set temp is below current temp auto turn on the AC. I have to manually turn on the AC button after hitting Auto. Thanks

Really! No Max Air button? This will be a royal pain here in Florida, especially when remote start is not an option either. Boo!

I haven't had a chance to test Auto with AC yet due to the fact a few degrees above freezing is considered balmy this time of year.

Using the auto button does not turn on the AC automatically. If the AC wasn't on when you turned the car off, then you have to push the Auto button and the AC button.

I agree with most of the comments - confusing manner to get the AC on and disappointed there is no Max AC.
