C400 front tires wore out at 15000kms
Hi all,
I took delivery of my Oct 29 last year and successfully survived the Canadian(Toronto) winter with my 19' summer RFTs Pirelli Pzeros due to lack of better understanding (that Pzero was ultra performance summer). Now my front driver tire is almost eating the sidewall with no water propulsion mark left but the inner portion still has some tread life left. (My passenger front and driver Rear has been replaced at 13k and 9k respectively)
Below is how it looked on April 6

Initially i thought it was alignment problem (camber), so i took the car in for free alignment check under adjustment warranty and dealer did some check claim it was square. They say my tire's excessive wear comes from the winter driving and wants me to replace the tire at my own cost (denying my claim that it was tire quality problem). [question 1] is this even true? And is Pzero's tire wear this bad?
Now that I have my car back, needless to say the tire is already bald, also the steering wheel appears to be dialed/turned left even when resting or driving straight. [question 2]Could it be they put something off when doing the alignment check?
This winter I will get proper winter wheels for sure but [Question 3:]I wonder if the winter wheel packages I get can be used towards the new GLC or C450? I might return this car at lease end due to various minor problems and this eating through tire and may get a C450 or GLC 450 after.

At temperatures below 45 degrees F (7 degrees C), Summer tires lose elasticity and therefore traction and braking power. Change the tires on your vehicle to M+S tires. Using Summer tires at very cold temperatures could cause cracks to form, thereby damaging the tires permanently. Mercedes-Benz cannot accept responsibility for this type of damage."

Hi,
My alignment is already done at the Corporate Store at Mississauga within "adjustment period".
I read somehwere online that BMW has first alignment free so I went and asked. the service advisor was nice enough to tell me the alignment was free under that period, not sure how long it lasts tho.
But still, the alignment was square.

Ran into same problem with my RWD C63. When I swapped the tires out the rears were still up for 3-5K miles but the fronts were very worn. Mine were also under inflated so the sides of the front were almost bare.
(edit) Just read your inner portion still has thread left. Try adding another 2-3 PSI of air to balance out the wear.

KEEP IN MIND THERE IS ONLY FRONT AND REAR TOE ADJUSTMENT OEM!
CAMBER – Allows to actually change the tire contact angle, improving wear/ traction
CASTER – Resolves steering pull, increases steering response. With better turn in and high speed directional control, along with improved anti dive/lift under brake and acceleration.
AT K-MAC WE SAW THE NEED AND MANUFACTURE PRECISELY ADJUSTABLE (SINGLE WRENCH, ON CAR) FRONT CAMBER AND CASTER AND REAR CAMBER (WITH EXTRA TOE) KITS.
Allowing to return vehicle to factory specs to accurately resolve steering pull or costly/premature edge tire wear. The result of altering height, load carrying, curb knock damage or fitting wide profile tires/wheels. Added bonus is these 4 front and rear K-MAC adjustable bushings also replace the highest wearing suspension bushings at the same time and have twice the load bearing area. The front bushes are 2 axis self aligning and are designed to also improve brake and steering response
For the front (only) - there are available fluted Camber bolts. But these are inaccurate (one only position) bolts offering a minimal .3 of one degree (1/8”/ 3mm) and require labour intensive disassembly each time. While the K-MAC unique patented design provides single wrench precise/ongoing adjustment capability – on car, accurately (under load) direct on alignment rack.
With 4 times the adjustment range of the one position fluted bolts. It means you fix it right the 1st time - no more ongoing visits to dealers or alignment shops because of lack of full/precise adjustment.
For the rear - you can purchase adjustable Camber rods but to reduce inner edge tire wear unlike K-MAC lower arm bushings – these rods need to adjust top of tire outwards which reduces all important clearance to outer fender. K-MAC kits also include extra Toe adjustment necessary to compensate for this new rear Camber facility.

I would have thought bringing the tires up to the recommeded pressure would have made the vehicle ride more harsh...but no, it actually rode better...feeling less bouncey over the bumps.

I'm actually at the dealer right now fighting with them about the wear on my wife's C300. Noticed the excessive wear at 6000 on the outside front tires, at 11000 they are bald only on the outsides. They were rotated at 7kish. They vehicle has been in the shop ffor now the fifth time, loads of issues. Never again will I purchase a MB. Still waiting to see if they will cover the tires.

They were rotated at 7kish. They vehicle has been in the shop ffor now the fifth time, loads of issues. Never again will I purchase a MB. Still waiting to see if they will cover the tires.
This is exactly what I have thought. I just paid CAD521 today to replace the front driver side tire cause dealer still claim to be my driving too aggressive and the winter driving.
I will return this car when lease ends.

They are telling me the same, I was at another dealer because I had a blowout on a pothole when I was 400 miles from home. I paid $466 for one tire to get me home, didn't do them both so I had proof to my local dealer on just how bad they are. The dealer I was at after the blowout said they couldn't help me with the issue, it's my own dealers problem.....
Never again will I purchase a Mercedes. I had been contemplating an E class for myself, that ship has sailed.

On my SLK55, replacing the rear tires at 4k miles was normal. At some point, I questioned alignment issues and I ended up paying for the camber kit - EVEN ON AN AMG. The tire wear was still there because of my driving style. I had staggered 18" wheels so the tires were still pricey, but they are nothing like 19" or 20" tire prices. Ouch! I know this is a C-class thread, but this issue is across the board. I had P-Zero before switching to Pilot SS. I'd stick with P-Zero if I could do it again.

My front tires need replacing at 10000kms, bull****! I went from AMGs to this car seemingly thinking that tire wear would be a lot less. Well the jokes is on me.

To be fair the tires are made by the well known brand companies, it's not Mercedes who made the tires. When cars with a lot of torque and you drive like a mad man, you will have to pay for the cost. At the end of day, you've enjoyed the speedy ride, that's what it matters.

Hello,
I am new to MBWorld but I have been a long time MB owner. I just bought 2016 C300W 205 with the sport package and 19 in wheels. I have 9K miles on my car and the front tires completely worn out on the outer edges. The inner edges are great.
I had the alignment checked at the dealership and they told me that the alignment was perfect. If anyone has any info that would be great. Has anyone heard if MB will be buying us new tires because of this issue?

I think the fella in the post above yours got MB to replace the tires. Take the car to any other shop that has an alignment rack that can take a Mercedes and have it checked. The rack will produce a report showing any elements (camber, caster, toe in, thrust vector) that deviates from Mercedes factory specs and how far out they were. If they're all green I don't know what to tell you, but my bet is they won't be all green.

My C450 has 3000 km's on it... The factory 19" Continentals are wearing quite aggressively. My fronts are down to 6/32nds and the rears are around 9/32nds... Seems very low for 3000k of mostly easy driving...
Is this as excessive as it appears to me? Will the dealer do anything for me? My dealer is 2 hours away so not easy to drop in...

I switched from runflats to Continental ExtremeContact DW tires. They are $175 a piece vs over $300 for the runflats. They are asymmetrical but not directional. After 4k miles, I had my tire shop flip the fronts on the rims to rotate them. The asymmetrical tread is for water so it's not a big concern for me during the summer in So Cal. I'm hoping to get 20k miles out the tires instead of the 11k I got out of my factory set.

Good point about tires being under inflated. After picking up my new 2015 C300 last week, I later found that all 4 tires were under inflated. I have the 19" wheels, so according to the door sill sticker, my fronts should be 39 psig...and the rears 45 psig.

Are you sure about those pressures.. mine also runs AMG 19's and states 250Kpa (about 36psi) front and rear..
Your stated pressures would be for heavily loaded no??
i know from experience that at 40 they are bloody hard felling... .

The tire pressure table found on the inside of the fuel filler door is the "all-around" recommended tire pressure for cold tires for various operating conditions, i.e. differing load and speed conditions.
I personally run 2 psig over the recommend tire pressure listed on the fuel filler door.

I've read in quite a few places, the 19inch run flats are only getting people 10,000 miles MAX. From my understanding if you are leasing this car you must return with run flats... I'm not about to purchase tires especially at this price every 10,000 miles.
I feel people are taking the OEM runflats off within the first 2,000 miles and putting on a highly rated non run flat, carrying a tire repair kit and hopefully getting 35,000 miles of the new tires. Then throwing the OEM run flats back on at lease end...
You end up spending more initially, but if it saves you from 4 sets of run flats... I feel its a good idea.
