Anybody has pictures of a car with Tinted taillights? or smoked or whatever they're called. I'm just wondering what they would look like on a W205 C class.

While I was getting my windows tinted, a red Jaguar F-Type was getting the tail lights smoked. It looked very nice and I briefly considered smoking out my tail lights. I still may get it done, will post pictures if I do.

And besides, tinting your rear is not a good idea! unless off course you are wearing a sunscreen...

Why is that? Do you mean because they would be tinted and the person would say that they weren't visible?

I'm talking about a very light tint, not too dark

I don't get it

By rear do you mean the rear windshield or the taillights?
I have my whole car tinted with ceramic tints
35% all around not including the factory tint which adds to it a little

Sorry, I just wouldn't - for no other reason than I love the LED rear lights, as they are.

I do agree that tinting does give a get-out-clause if someone tail-ends you. Sad, but true.

sorry Xzero, I had a giggle by reading the post prior to mine. I have no views on tinting your rear

So on a serious note: I think what jolt86 and others are saying that if you do tint your tail-lights (just like cops are fond to give citations on even little tinted license plates), in the sad case of a rear-end collision, the other party might not owe any liability to you.

I love them too
They are Beautiful
I was just wondering what it would look like on a W205

I never said that I was considering tinting them. I was looking to see if something did it on theirs

I absolutely hate it that some people tint their tail lights. It doesn't even look that nice.

Some tint them to the point that they are hardly noticeable even at night, let alone in the day time.

As an MD, I worked in the ER for a bit, and I had a couple of car crashes associated with the tinted tail lights because people do not see them clearly enough. #endrant

In many states it is against the law and you'd get a ticket. Generally, tail lights are considered "safety equipment" and there are laws against modifying those lights to make them less visible, as well as laws that directly prohibit tinting rear lights. So if you get into an accident, and your car was in violation of the law, there is a presumption that you were at fault. Same as if, for example, if you rearended someone, ran a stop light, or were speeding.
You can prove or attempt to prove that your darker tail lamps were not the reason, but chances are the insurance companies aren't going to pay to fight it out, and if it ever came to it they can bring out plenty of proof that tinted rear lights/brake lights make it harder to see.

Even a very light tint could darken the brake lights enough to claim that it made it harder to tell them from undarkened tail lights. But the main thing is the presumption that you are at fault.

Personally I think tinted tail lights takes away from the vehicle's class and stereotypes the driver as a jerk off the bat.

And seriously why would anyone in the right mind want to cover up the beautifully constructed rear LEDs of the W205??? Think the LEDs might get too hot under direct sunlight?

It looks hideous. Don't do it.

I tinted my taillights almost 10 years ago, I thought this fad was over.

Looks terrible, no way in hell I'd tint them (I love the LEDs stock) but to each their own!

I wouldn't do it. Ugly IMHO. Why hide the beautiful LED's? And I agree with others that it could be a safety and insurance issue. But if you like it, more power to you.

I think smoked tail lights would look good with the cardinal red paint.

Before all you trads freak out please hear me out on this...

The cardinal red C class has one pretty obvious aesthetic flaw. The tail lights almost blend with the exterior paint but the shades are just different enough to make them clash.

Lightly smoking the tail lights adds contrast and solves this problem.

I don't think I would bother with this mod for any other color, but I would definitely do a light smoke tint with a red car.

Regarding safety, the LEDs are much brighter than incandescent bulbs. A light smoke is not going to inhibit visibility enough to make the vehicle unsafe.
