Intermittent Problems with C450 Sport+ Mode

The last two days, when in Sport+ mode, I noticed that the gearing was soft (I think Comfort mode, low RPMs, quick shifts to higher gears) and no exhaust crackle. All the Sport+ display indicators were on including suspension indicators and eco mode off. I thought I was imagining it yesterday but it happened again today. Both in the morning, first drive of the day. Today, after driving about 5 miles, I almost floored the throttle and then I could feel it kick into the Sport+ gearing and exhaust from that point forward. I have had my C450 for over one month and never noticed this happening before. Anyone else experience this?

It happened twice in the morning around 7:30 am. It was about 75 degrees F outside so not too cold. How do you check for codes on the engine?

Also Having C450 Issues

After stopping to get gas (yes I tightened the cap all the way), when I started my car, the check engine light was on, and some odd stuff happened. The outside temperature reading was "_ _ _" and the entire speedometer area and the infotainment screen all went very dim. After that, I took it in to the MB dealership where I work to have it looked at, and before I could turn my key in to the service, the check engine light turned off. Now, when I'm in S+ Mode, it seems that every system is in S+ except for the engine. It still shifts and handles aggressively, but the engine seems a little under powered and the exhaust does not crackle/pop anymore (in any mode).

Anyone have any ideas?

Yikes, that's awful. Mine is an early October build, with 1300 miles and I've seen nothing remotely lupine this so far. Keep us posted.

Say, if you work for a dealer, can you talk about the c450's future?

Seems to be common knowledge that the C450 will be rebadged an AMG C43 next year. Allegedly only the badges on the rear of the car will change.

My thoughts on why C43. That is likely the equivalent boosted displacement of the car which would put it at roughly 10.5 psi of boost.

Common knowledge tends to be rank hearsay.

Well, I can say that with all of the recent (and forthcoming) changes in Mercedes Benz model nomenclature, I'd say that C43 AMG is most likely. If they decide to actually hand off the model to our AMG division, then you can look for the AMG C43, which would accommodate a genuine handcrafted engine from AMG. If they do that, I'll be pretty annoyed with myself for not waiting for the better version to come out, but I don't suspect that they will significantly change the model. So my guess is no changes to the engine/tuning but possibly some suspension tweaks and a few more options on the C43 AMG.

***Oh and update on my car: I had it looked at by our technicians, and they found nothing wrong. Now my car is back to its normal crackling popping self

I'm a certified MB sales representative. Forgive me, I'm used to saying terms like "our" when I talk to clients.

C450 Lag

I haven't experienced the lack of popping, crackling, but I notice that when I'm coasting to a stop, but don't stop completely and then step on the gas, the engine takes a second or two to respond. I've caught myself rolling into traffic with essentially no power until the engine kicks in and gets me going. Is this just turbo lag? I haven't experienced this in my other turbo car. I usually get a lag when I'm already accelering, not from coasting. I don't have this problem if I come to a complete stop.

That is a known and annoying issue with the transmission. It happens on the C63 as well.

Yup and only seems to be really bad in sport+ mode. Which makes sense, of course, for there to be basically no responsiveness in the mode that is supposed to be the most responsive.

I have this issue too and they really should fix it.

Ive been experiencing the same exact issue and I think I brought it up earlier as well. It is dangerous and I hope MB does something about it. I would have to say that is the biggest let down for the C450. Mine is an Aug 2015 build

I have also noticed that after the 1500mile break in period my car has fully learned my driving style and the cracks and pops only happen when I do some really spirited driving also my gears are shifting at much higher rpms

This is happening to me right now. I was driving in eco mode all morning. When I left my office I put it in S+ after it was hot and no popping. The sound was different too and do blip on down shift. It has been raining all day is an exhaust temperature thing? I haven't restarted and driven since I got home.

2016 C450 (no code 165 option..)
I have been dealing with this as well, starting about month ago. The dealer is clueless. They started off with "your car does not have that option" and then "we tested the C45's form the lot and they do not make that noise". I test drove the new C450 from the lot with the service manager a few weeks back and guess what? Yep, ran and sounded like it should. I have called MB USA as well.
No resolution to date. Mine has remained though, has not come back.

Is it possible that the ECU is just adapting and becoming more efficient with the additional miles?

IDK, just throwing stuff out there.

I hope not. Would be a real shame if the car became less fun on purpose
