Proof for free map updates?

I think MB has done a poor job of educating their dealers on the new map process. Last summer my service advisor kept insisting that the car still required a DVD to update the maps and that I could order 1 free set of DVDs per year. Now the dealer wants to charge over $300 and insists I'm not eligible. For a new standard feature with Comand, it's surprising how much confusion there still is on this.

I also found this: "The system may be either functionally impaired or temporarily unavailable if the information in the digital street map of the navigation system is incorrect or out of date."
If you don't have a HUD, it displays them in the center screen (between the gauges) and calls them 'Assistance Graphics'.

Map subscription/updates are/should be similar to the traffic info.
Main/big dealerships would just do it as part of the yearly service - providing you ask nicely of course!
Interestingly, at first they were not aware there was an update. When they confirmed an update was available, they quoted $405 plus tax. I pointed out that 3 years of updates were included with the car purchase. They did some checking and found out that was true. Apparently, I was the first customer to ask for the free map update. They were very apologetic and offered to do it anytime I stopped in next week, although it takes a couple of hours to complete.
