I am not bashing C owners at all, I of course am one. I love it. I will probably get a 450 in a couple years because I love them. This is obviously a group of enthusiasts (we are posting on a C-class forum after all) so no one just bought a C-class because it had the 3-pointed star on the front. We all like and enjoy this car. However, id venture to say that 90% of other c class owners are not enthusiasts such as ourselves, and buy a C-class simply because it is a mercedes. A realtor I recently used was the perfect example. Older woman over 70, not a clue probably about the car, but I asked her if she liked her C300 and she said "yes, i bought it because I like the round air vents inside of the car". THAT is the kind of person I am talking about, no one on here

My kid went to FAU. The S Class is like a Malibu down there. On the flip side, I was visiting my little home town in upstate NY and a cop (THE cop) pulled me over because he thought I might be a criminal.

It's all a matter of perception. Obviously we don't buy Mercedes for the status...they have the status they have because they're great cars... but to the motoring public at large, the smaller, less expensive Benz's can make you look like a poser. If Bentley suddenly came out with a $40k sedan, same issues.

I haven't noticed any animosity in my C300. I do get this in my BMW M5. But then again there are surveys that show BMW drivers are the most hated on the road.

Interestingly with my Jaguar F-Type R people react the opposite. They pull aside and let me through, and defer to let me in when changing lanes. I am not sure if this is because they defer to a sports car (more Uberholt prestige) or if they just want to get a better look at the beauty.

I live in Namibia (Africa for those that care to know) and being in my 20s, i had a choice of buying a car that is associated with my age like the Golf R, 2 series blah blah cos benzes here are seen to be for the briefcase carrying guys, but i decided to go for an almost fully specd C200 not because of wanting to pose or wanting to be a chic magnet (which I hope the C is) but simply because i wanted luxury and finesse with a dose of class in a well crafted car. Sales guy once asked me what i will drive after the C class or when im 30. His opinion was the car looks to matured for me. Told him to get the damn thing here already... First car by the way

In West Los Angeles the C class is extremely common and not distinctive one way or the other. Generally I've found the worst (skilled and mannered) drivers to be Honda drivers, the most inconsiderate to be Prius drivers, and the most obnoxious to be BMW M-series drivers.

In other parts of the state/country/world the C class would be one of the pricier cars on the road.

I was once pulling up to a red light and saw this fantastically clean black c300 to my left. I was admiring it as it was very similar to my c400, both black in colour, intelligent light package, sport package. Anyways I stopped at the red light and saw that my lane was ending up ahead. Beside me to my left was another car and behind that was the c300. Instead of gunning it and going ahead I decided to do the proper mature thing and signal and do the "zipper" technique of merging in between the car beside me to the left and the c300 behind it. Would you believe the woman almost would not let me in? Even honked and stuck up her finger at me. If I had not been aggressive and forcefully merged in I might've hit the parked car I was coming up on. Suffice to say I was very very surprised a fellow w205 did not show any courtesy. Lately, I find its best to just signal in advance, try not to cut ahead at the last second and begin merging - let them honk and wave their arms. Anyways, I've found in Toronto that 95% of people driving Mercedes do not care or show respect for others driving the brand.... the only exceptions I imagine are people driving AMG's or GTs, $150k + cars etc

I will say that the S is respected and I'm always shocked when I'm I forget I'm in one of my kid's cars and nobody lets me in to traffic, or cuts me off when I try to pass or change lanes. The seas part for an S.
Both my E's are respected. And the c class is a joke.

Not noticed any animosity against my C, though I have found myself adopting a drive style suitable a Merc.

Quite confident my stress-levels are much lower than when driving other cars

C class is a mid size sedan in the for Europe. Where you are. You don't see many Lincoln navigatiors or Cadillac escalades there. And yes C class is a joke

Guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. Where I live the E is near exclusively used as taxies - and viewed thereafter

Where are you exactly because I would like to know which taxi service uses E550 and E63 AMG S Sedans...before you answer remember my original post as I said my E's get respect, which are 2010 E550 V8 & 2016 E63 AMG-S Sedan. I know they are not using my model E's.

There are always going to be these kind of - and to be frank - pointless discussions. "Is the 924 and 944 a proper Porsche", is the C190 worthy of the Merc badge, etc, etc.

Most automotive manufacturers now have such a massive range-spectre. BMW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8-series. MB A, B, C, E and so forth. Not sure that classifies any of them being jokes - though naturally some are less desirable.

May you drive your (fast) Taxi in happiness

This is a pointless discussion. I've recently owned a Range Rover Sport SC, E-Class Coupe, BMW M3, currently have a C230K, BMW X3 M sport, C63 AMG... It doesn't matter what you drive as to whether you're "respected".

Some drivers just care about themselves and where they are going. They come first no matter what. The ones that do let you go first, yield, etc, etc. would do that for anyone; they're courteous no matter what.

As far a a C class being a joke or any entry-level model for that matter...these are the money-makers, the bread and butter for Mercedes, BMW's etc. Saying the C class, 3-Series, A4's are jokes (implies) that because they are not E, S, 5-series, A6/7's is a bit pretentious.

Respect the Road, Respect others and Happy Motoring.

So now we get bashed for affording cars that are a "joke" and seen as Taxis...Will the world ever let one be?

Perhaps the 70 year old grandma could only afford C-class, after raising her kids, and putting others first...it's my assumption here... By why judge?

on the other hand, you have young people that have high-end model cars, on welfare, they come first, their kids come second...I'm not picking on anyone here, but we've seen or read about people like this... But because they drive that S-class (not knowing the other details) they're respected?
