Why did you pick C300/C-Class over GLC?

Smile Why did you pick C300/C-Class over GLC?

For me, I picked C300 because:
- the C sedan handles better than GLC (well, no one can help that, it's kind of a given).
- Sedna's better fuel economy saves about $2000 to $3000 over the course of the vehicle's life.
- I also like a more compact car and the C-class's size seems just right.
- I like to have a more distinct separation between the passenger's space and the trunk, which is not the case in a GLC.
- GLC is a first-year model and I want a 2nd year model to have more kinks worked out already.

Having said that, I do very much like the GLC because:
- You sit higher in a SUV (GLC in this case, of course) so you have a "better view."
- Roomier inside
- Has all the new tech stuff just like the C-class
- I find it to be quieter than the C-class.

SUVs are supposedly more profitable for manufacturers, but the one thing that bugs me is that if you spec the C-class with the same options as the GLC, they are priced almost the same. GLC is only about $1000 more with the same options as C-class.

That makes GLC seem like a better value than C-class... SUVs are supposed to be more expensive by quite a bit! So, I am spending about the same money as a SUV only to get a sedan... LOL

Don't know about the insurance rate comparison. Perhaps someone else would know.

If you pick a C-class over GLC, (or a GLC over C-class), please share your reasons!

On a side note, perhaps Tesla Model X SUV will handle very well due to the battery placement, lowering the center of gravity to be possibly lower than most sedans.

Besides the fact that when I bought my C the GLC wasn't out yet, I got the C because I wanted a car, not a cuv. I can't imagine there are very many people who haven't decided what segment of vehicle to buy before they go shopping. I would think people either want a c/3-series/a4 or a glc/x3/q5 and then compare accordingly.

The GLC looks wrong. It looks like they took the C-class and dumped it onto stilts. I think the same applies quite a few of the recently released mini-suv's.

The sharing of platform has unfortunate consequences

Coz' GLC was still relatively new when I pickep up my C class. Wasn't sure if I wanted to go via the first year bugs. Beside, the GLC lease / finance rate was relatively high due to the age of the model.

Because I didn't want to be seen driving a chick SUV...

Kidding aside, the GLC was not available at the time, and small SUVs are not my cup of tea. The smallest SUV I'd ever want to own is a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

This isn't a very complicated thread. You either want an SUV or a sedan. Apples and oranges. Both will be wildly popular.

agreed, this isnt a real-world question. buyers in the past weren't trying to decide between a GLK and C-class. just because these look similar now, doesn't mean they are going to confuse people.

the GLC 43 AMG Coupe will be an interesting offering if they move forward with their lineup standardization

I am going to have to beg to differ. We looked at all the features vehicles have to offer currently and looked for vehicles that offer all that we wanted. The C-class and therefore by extension, GLC, were the least expensive vehicles offering all the things we wanted to get. Given their comparable prices too, we had to decide which one to get.

i mean you have to understand that the majority of consumers out there, long before they go into a dealership or even choose a brand (ie MBenz) would know if they are in the market for an SUV or a sedan. The fact that prices are similar is not normally a factor in deciding what genre of vehicle youre looking at getting.

I understand YOU are making this decision this way, however most consumers will know going into it that they want a sedan or an suv. I'm only saying this because the answer to your original question may not be as prevalent on this particular forum as you would want. That's all. Im not meaning to be negative in any way

The GLC is a great vehicle and certainly an impressive redesign by MB, but this will typically come down to personal preference.

Even if a GLC was the same price as a C300 with exactly the same options, that doesn't make it a better "deal" or mean that there is more value in buying a GLC. There is no value in buying something you you don't actually want, or in buying a vehicle that you don't prefer over another. When it comes to the needs and desires of car-buyers, there are so many factors that come in to play. Price is only one of those factors.

Also, there's a reason that the GLC is priced so closely to the C-Class sedan and was given the "GLC" designation. There are certainly more expensive SUVs offered by MB and from other manufacturers, but the GLC is the "C-Class" of the SUVs and therefore falls within the same price bracket. Similarly, the GLE350 is the "E-Class" of the SUVs, which is why the prices between those sedans and SUVs are often nearly the same.

This is definitely more often than not, although it's not at all uncommon for a consumer to walk into a dealership looking to buy one type of vehicle and then driving home with a completely different model. This is even true of color and features of the same model. People walk in having decide on buying a black car, but wind up getting silver or red.

That's fair and I get that. It makes sense. In my specific case, we actually looked at all brands, which I can certainly see would be an unusual approach for many.

That's not unusual at all. A great majority of consumers typically shop different brands before making a final decision. However, they usually have a specific vehicle class or size in mind and then make comparisons and perform research. For instance, someone shopping for a C-Class is likely to also consider a BMW 3-Series or Audi A4.

Also, it's true that plenty of customers will walk into dealerships have no clue what they want, whether it be a sedan, coupe, or SUV. Some people are just compulsive buyers and don't bother researching or spending a lot of time shopping around.
