License Plate Screw Rust

After one southern Oregon winter, my license plate screws have become very badly rusted. The rear screws in particular are completely covered with rust such that they are beginning to stain the license plate frame.

I know that 'stainless' doesn't mean 'rust proof', but I've never experienced such severe corrosion on any other car.

Any similar experiences or thoughts?

Just change the screws for anodised ones? The screws aren't MB specials they're cheap ones your dealer put in.

You think that's bad? We used to walk ten miles to school, one way, in the snow, and it was uphill, going and coming.

Seriously, you didn't notice?

Quality SS screws will not rust. Spend the 2 bucks at a bolt supplier and your good to go.

I'm thinking to just use double sided tape instead of screws though

Or spend less than $10 for some quality S.S. fasteners on eBay...

Thumbs down Dissimilar metals

Dissimilar metals in contact will cause anything to corrode. Buy a good quality license plate holder and use the fasteners that come with it. I didn't like the cheap dealer logo model that came with my W203, even if it did say Mercedes. So I bought a solid stainless plate holder at my Mercedes dealer in 2007 (plain, with no logos). It cost $22 (much more than a standard auto parts store model). I replaced it with the same model 3 or 4 years ago, when a friend backed into it and bent it. Neither plate holder has corroded at all, in spite of New England sand and salt.
