Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Really easy to get to. Take the cover off where your battery is by simply turning the hold-down clips into the unlocked position, then lift the cover away. The filter is just clipped into the cover.

just curious, I was told the cabin air filter is located inside the vehicle under the glove compartment?? As with all models. Under the hood is the engine air filter?

That's the dust filter.
For the cabin filter, you have to go into the passenger footwell. Fold down the carpeting and there is a cover with two clips that open up towards you, then the cover pulls out. The filter is in there, it's a tight squeeze but it will pull out and the new one slides back in the same way.

Same for me, I clean them annually (compressed air and odour eliminator and they are practically as new..
I live on the coast away from a lot of pollution and dust though so expect mileage to vary.

Be careful when replacing that filter. At my B service, the dealer managed to damage the fan somehow (I think they installed the filter in a way that it was hitting the fan blades). This led to having to replace the fan motor -- at the dealer's expense.

Has anyone found a good place to purchase the cabin air filter? I'm looking to get a charcoal one but not the official Mercedes one since those are a bit pricey. All I have had luck was finding the dust filter or older w204 cabin..I am assuming those won't fit and are a different shape.

Yup, not surprising. There's some random plastic hook that sticks up from the flat panel you need to remove, and it can drag along the bottom of the fan unit.
I was impressed with the German engineering under the hood to replace that filter...quarter turn fasteners, very cool. In the footwell, not so much...not convenient at all...

Awesome, thanks. What kind of screw driver for the cabin screws?
May want to get these confirmed by your dealer, but it looks like:
Cabin filter 205-835-01-47
Dust filter 166-830-02-18

Took a look at replacing the under hood cabin filter but unable to remove the cover. Unlocked the twist latches but not able to pull it free from the seal at the back that runs along the base of the windshield either by trying to lift up or pull forward. Pulled pretty hard but don't want to damage it for sure. Video just shows it being lifted off pretty easily.

I just did my cabin filter and it was a bit of a tussle. Namely:
1. After unscrewing the bottom glovebox lid, you have to be prepared to pull and wiggle as it just doesn't drop down
2. Once the filter's clip is removed, the filter doesn't just drop out (at leas mine didn't.) On the left, there is a space between the filter and its housing. Put your finger in there against the side of the filter and pull and jiggle. The filter will come out.
3. To remove the plugs on the inside of the lid, you may have to pull forceably on the one on the left and you will have to depress the top of the one on the right as you pull
4. Because the space between the bottom of the fliter's housing and the car's floor is less than the length of the filter you will have to be prepared to deform the filter a little as you push it in.
5. I was unsuccessful in replacing the lid. I just couldn't maneuver it so that it would fit in. It's been suggested that you first try to engage the right rear of the lid into it place, but I couldn't do it. Certainly would appreciate some more detail on how to do it.

there are two pieces to the filter cover. The lid itself, and this sliding piece thats attached to it. if you're holding onto the two pieces together, and you slide the "sliding piece" to the right, you sort of lock it into place. What confused me was that I thought I had to put the lid / cover back on and then slide the sliding piece to the right, to lock it in place. however, what you have to do is (before putting the cover back on) have the sliding piece slid to the right, so that it's "locked in," and while its "locked-in," place the cover over the air filter, and then slide the "sliding piece" to the left to secure it. I hope that made sense.

Or, you can raise the plastic up enough to unhook the filter housing without removing it from the windshield side at all, I've seen many techs do it that way. Once you know how the dust filter holder releases, it comes out pretty quick.

I often have to slide under there with a flashlight to line the filter cover back up, due to the strange design it has, and make sure the rubber gasket of it sits in the channel on the inner end properly so you can engage the latch easily. Still better than the 204/212 design with the very difficult slider and no real alignment to speak of, but nothing like the CLA/GLA with just two simple clips and no panel covering the filter. The S class has two filters in a V shape, makes it even more tedious to fit them then the lid back in place, plus the lid has screws in addition to sliders.

It does just pull up. First time will seem like you're breaking something, it pops out pretty harshly, but it clips back in the same way and will be fine.
