Then I took his name, Linkdin headshot and phone number and created a profile for him on the nastiest gay dating/sex site I could find with a detailed list of all the stuff he was "up for." I let that cook for a week and he got about a hundred "flirts" so I'm sure his phone was really busy.
After that the Craigslist ads stopped. Anyway, a retrofit Apple Car Play module is a tough nut to crack for a 3rd party. That's because the manufacturer must install Apples CarIOS on their head unit. That's the companion operating system that interfaces with your IPhone.
So the motto is, number one, be skeptical of any 3rd party offering Car Play. It's usually just a cell phone screen mirror. Number two is if I bust your fraud, don't sell my phone on Craigslist if you're squeamish about random strange gay men calling you at all hours for a "Dirty Sanchez" or a "Rusty Trombone".

If you all carefully observe the interior of each of these listed vehicles -
2016 A-Class
2016 B-Class
2016 CLA-Class
2016 CLS-Class
2016 E-Class Cabriolet
2016 E-Class Coupe
2016 GLA-Class
2016 GLE-Class
You will find that all of these use previous generation COMAND NTG5*1 system. This system has a numeric keypad and only a rotational knob to control the infotainment system.
The two glaring omissions in the aforementioned list are 2016 C-Class and 2016 S-Class, both of which use the most latest iteration, COMAND NTG5*2 system. This latest COMAND system gets rid of the numeric keypad and adds a touch pad. See attachment for distinction between COMAND NTG5 systems.
I have been doing a lot of research on this, there are some folks on russian fora who have retrofitted Carplay firmware, that has been released for the aforementioned vehicles, on some older vehicles that were shipped with COMAND NTG5*1 hardware. This clearly proves that once NTG5*2 firmware with Carplay comes out (possibly on 2017 E-Class), it can definitely be flashed on to any of the vehicles with NTG5*2 hardware including W205 cars.
Now I truly hope it doesn't come down to doing all the dirty coding and flashing work. I hope Mercedes takes care of its customers and just issues a software update for all of us and prove that they are "Best or Nothing".

The refrofit information about NTG5S1 smartphone connectivity is available on WIS. So there is nothing special about that actually. Here is the document numbers;
az82.60-p-0027nkb (A,B, CLA) Retrofit drive kit plus for smartphones.
az82.60-p-0027ewa (W212 E Class Facelift)
az82.60-p-0027el (W218 CLS Class)
and the list goes...
the 0027 is both android auto and carplay. In reality any dealer should be able to do this. In addition, there is no need to have the COMAND unit. It is also applicable to audio20 units.

I had to correct you:
Retrofit drive kit plus - it's not a smartphone integration
Actually documents for retrofit:
• AZ82.60-P-0028NKA (NGCC)
• AZ82.60-P-0028NKM (166/292/207/218)
And document states that it's only available for cars equipped with command systems.

I got a response to my post on official Mercedes Benz Facebook page, saying that retrofitting CarPlay into 2015 W205 is possible. It said that Smartphone Integration package (Code 14U) is what I need and advised to contact a local MB dealership.
So I did, during a brief phone call with a lady from MB Parts, I provided details on my car and the VIN. She told me that retrofitting my car with 14U is definitely doable, although will take a lot of time (probably a few months), and will be not cheap: $915 in parts plus labor.
That pretty much concluded my searches.

The cost (parts and labor) is similar to the Drive Kit Plus module ($500 for the part and 4 hours labor), but per MB's announcement the C Class was excluded. It's possible they've since added the 205, or the dealer was mistaken, although if they had your VIN...

Very interesting it looks like MB will be releasing a kit but for people with Audio20 only:

Until Carplay supports Waze it's a non starter for me.

She said that they will need to send my VIN or something to Mercedes (Germany?) but honestly that sounded like a bunch of BS to me. Obviously, it's something that they have never done before, so there's no definitive answer to your question. You can try to give your local dealership a call and find out. Sorry.

Yes please keep this going. I too call BS on MB & CarPlay. I asked specifically about it when purchasing my car and was told oh it'll be a software upgrade for the car. LIES

so my rep is saying that their documentation states that its not officially supported. However he thinks it should work. The good news is that its pretty much plug and play and should cost around 299-399 for the install there is some custom coding so its not like you can do it yourself. He is getting a little but more info but says we should be able to try and install on wed of next week. Will update you on what comes of it.

You guys are talking to yourselves in circles,
Only NGT5.1 radios are carplay ready for retros, but they need software updates and possibly hardware depending on the production date, that is the only version available for carplay as of today, the Comand and Entry radios do not have carplay voice capability without engineering updates, the dealer cannot do it. W205 radios are not 5.1 Most are 5 "comand" or 4.5 entry so no carplay yet from dealer, We can add carplay to 5.1 radios we do it all day long. Dealer can to if you hold their hand.

hey guys I'm at the dealership getting the phone integration stuff installed. They say that they don't know for sure if its going to work but they are saying that cost is going to be about 135 in labor plus the cost of the part. Will let you know what I pay when I'm done and if it does in fact work.
let me know if you have any questions for me to ask.
they were very clear that they have never done this before but were willing to try it and see.
