There was some bad blood between ******* and the forum awhile back. ******* had a sponsorship and they were promoting a CarPlay retrofit for several cars including the 205. They appropriated a one-off demo video of a car they did not do, swore their module would do the same, and started taking pre-orders. (This whole story may have already been posted earlier in the thread somewhere).
I questioned their claims but rather than answer they would delete the entire thread and post a new one. Finally I called their 800 number hoping to speak with a product engineer or someone who knew what they were talking about. The phone system was fishy in that every "department" you'd reach would refer you back to the main menu.
Finally I found an option that rang through, but whoever answered said "Hello?' and was on a cell phone. I hung up. A few minutes later I received a text on my cell demanding that I delete my posts in the thread because the forum needs ******* to survive. When I asked who the sender was they said "MBWorld Admin". I told them if they were an admin they could delete the posts themselves. Then they said they were too busy to be deleting posts but they could just issue a permanent ban instead, at which point I told them to go f--- themselves.
I contacted the site admin who confirmed they hadn't sent the text, but they needed proof to shut down the sponsorship. I reverse indexed the number that sent the text and got a full name. I checked the name on Linkdin and he had a listing as the CEO of *******s.
He was promptly banned. Then, to retaliate, he created a fake Craigslist ad offering an Iphone 6 for sale for $150 with my phone number. I shut that down and he posted another one. Then i took his photo, name, address and telephone number and signed him up on a gay hook-up site. I won't give details but suffice it to say he was very horny and pretty much up for anything.
So then at least ******* was a one man operation being run out of a house in New Jersey by a crazy drunk Russian guy. Not sure if that's still the case.

Since the launch of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, there have been certain software incompatibilities that have been extremely difficult for our engineers to resolve. This is due to Apple/Google’s software not functioning within the underlying system architecture of some carlines. C-Class and GLC have been the most challenging. A workaround for MY18 (starting with fall production) will be to change the operating system for the entry headunit which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the optional headunit (COMAND) would remain the same as MY17 and therefore, remain incompatible with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
We are aware this is an upsetting situation and have been trying every solution possible in order to make this software available within the current architecture of the C-Class and GLC. For most other carlines, fixes were able to be implemented in past model years.

Are they changing the OS to make it compatible???
If the hardware doesn't change, but the OS does to ensure compatibility, then it's strictly a software update to get this functionality.
The OS is nothing more than foundational software.
Period.
The guy has reputation and known by the market, I don't think it is a scam. Maybe a rip-off. Based on that I called the local service and answer is fixed "no update order/option has been given to dealers".

Therefore, seeing these kind of posts makes you more angry, because there is no logical explanation to costumers.
Just visited the Belgium Mercedes website. If you try to configure the C-class, you'll notice smartphone integration package as an option, for 424 euros including Apple carplay and Android auto.
And it seems to be not compatible with comand online, as if you select the option it will remove smartphone integration package.

As now Carplay/Android auto is availble for w205 MY2018 with Audio20 I've approached MB service few times. They said to me, that I'm not the only one and they have investigated this topic with MB central, however response was negative. It is forbidden for them to change software version, they can only download one based on VIN and this will have no effect.
Nevertheless it seems that hardware for Audio20 has not changed, only software. It means that as soon first cars from MY2018 will arrive someone can copy software and take some money for retrofit it into old w205. For other classes (A, CLA, etc.) it's around 80EUR in Poland.
I also have a C200 with the 20 audio interface, all across my order forms it’s stated 2018 C200 and I don’t have the little touchpad above the wheel so I’m presuming I have a newer c200 but still falling just out of the newest aug onwards ones.
just here to follow as I’ve been renting a Vauxhall (Opel) corsa for a while here in France and CarPlay seems 100x better than the god awful Garmin nav I have in the MB at the moment, hopefully someone can do the update without having to fork out £400 at a main dealer for the 14U part!
probably they have some contract with navigation software company. if they allow other cars to have android auto, car play. then nobody buy their gps software.

The problem is not spending additional 400 pounds on software upgrade, but the fact itself that dealer is not willing to do it (upgrade software) if you have not bought this extension while ordering the car.

For MY2018 you can order such software extension (carplay), completely independent to garmin nav, so it is not license/contract issue.
I have an installer in Shanghai.. He sent me this... I will go there next week and install it... try it and see how it works.. If there is an interest I could bring some units to USA / Canada when I go next month.. No idea about pricing but it seems to be EXACTLY what we are looking for....

Do you know how complicated the install is? I'm sure a lot of people on this forum would be very interested.
really just want an oem integration option. if the 2018 c class with carplay audio 20 ships with NTG 5.2 we should be golden. as all w205 have the NTG 5.2 and is currently not compatable. I saw someone say the 2018s down graded to NTG 5.1 but i dont see why mercedes would do that. either way, its possible in the 2018s, so it should be possible in ours. question is will it be an official MB retro fit, or will we have to do it on our own.
