I do not like how all of us who really wanted CarPlay in the W205 are quiet about it after getting their cars. We were sort of tricked into believing that we will be getting it, especially because Mercedes chose to demonstrate CarPlay for the first time in a Mercedes in a W205 in the video below.
I don't know exactly how many people were enthusiastic about CarPlay in the C-Class. I can just talk about the few owners I saw in this forum and myself. I am extremely disappointed because CarPlay was one of the main features that grabbed my attention. What forced me to make this post is that I recently saw that CarPlay is being offered in the A-Class, B-Class, and others, and surprisingly the outgoing E-Class.
I am certain that Daimler can find a solution to this and retrofit CarPlay for W205 owners. We cannot stay quiet about this and eat it up. Let us bring attention to Daimler so that we put an end to the waiting and miscommunication about CarPlay.
If you are willing to sponsor send it to me in Shanghai.. If its good I will review online here for you and im sure everyone with W205 will buy from you

So I went to get the unit installed.. Turns out it the same as on my last video... Had it installed and must say I was impressed to begin with.. Really neat..
BUT
The phone must be wired to USB to make it work which is OK
Problem is however that our HU doesnt have AUX so the phone needs to have bluetooth turned off while using Car Play and Media setting must be radio.
Meaning you will always have static **** noise while using the unit..
Thats said I removed it and drove home sad and frustrated with my OEM unit and no car play.

i think everyone needs to be patient. as far as an oem upgrade from mercedes its looking less hopeful. but whatever the 2018s have for a head unit either NTG 5.2 like us or i have heard rumors they have "downgraded" to NTG 5.1. You can just swap the head unit and reprogram and you should be able to get it no problem if you had audio 20 with or without burmeister.

Thanks for the update! I was just about to purchase one. Do you have video of how it worked? Why does bluetooth have to be off? That's annoying. Also, do you lose radio functionality??
Will pick up my C220d on Wednesday 1st Nov. I´ve ordered the factory installed CarPlay - i know it´s not aftermarket - but just to confirm it´s available for the 2017/2018 models

Pro´s
- Nice and intuitive interface
- Quick acces to your Music and Playlists
- Siri is working "ok" for command and text messages
Cons.
- Apple Maps is somewhat lackluster, no speed limit and very limited visual appeal vs. the normal interface on the iPhone.
- No wireless connection, makes it rather cumbersome to connect via Lightning and having to remove it physically when leaving the car. Must have left the phone in the car 10 times already.
- You cannot have CarPlay connected for i.e. Music and opt. for normal Garmin Satnav, it´s either or.
ok i have started to figure out how to do an oem retrofit for car play for w205 15-17 MY. it is going to involve changing the headunit unfortunately.
On the plus side, the music quality is better, the response of the system is much much quicker, and the audio actually seems louder as well. Of course you also get carplay or android auto.
I figured this out because I have a 2017 c43 which went in for service the other day, and received a 2018 c300 loaner with audio 20 w/ apple carplay. for me it is a MUST have.
So i am going to start an OEM retrofit thread, most likely in c43/450 section as that is the car i have.

Awesome! Can you link to that thread here? I am trying to do this retrofit as well.
I just updated this thread with all one needs to do the swap. Not sure when I will be taking it on but the framework is layed out. It should be doable.!!!
