I'm way past that part. I saw that video before and was trying to find it during the removal so I could refresh my memory. But couldn't find it, so I guessed my way thru it.
It seems like I got a defective unit or something. All connections are correct. It came up with the menu. But touching each menu didn't get me to the next. And the track pad wasn't working. So I was stuck. Tried again after a few hours and now the screen doesn't come up. I talked to the seller and he said he'll consult with the "engineer" tomorrow and get back to me.

Ah, that's gotta be a bit frustrating... I can totally emphasize...
Showed the thread to my wife. She says that your wife must know by now.
All jokes aside - Hope it turns out to be something really simple.

I assume that will complete the ground circuit, but not having it grounded shouldn't affect the touching of the screen. Right now, the problem is that touching the menu doesn't do anything.

I think you're missing my point. Perhaps the chassis needs to be grounded for the unit to work as designed. It may also need a full power off reset. I would recommend bolting it into the dash, pulling your negative lead off the battery for a minute or so. Reconnecting the battery, and check functionality again.

I paid over 500 for Garmin SD and they haven't provided any updates since 2014. For 400 bucks that includes the lcd and the whole package, I would not mind if there's no update at all. Plus, if you really want, I think igo would sell you updated map for a small fee.

[QUOTE=WhoIsThat;6754403]That's neat. Great job! What turned out to be the problem earlier when the touchscreen wasn't working?[/QUOTE
Right now, it's either their canbus box not working properly or the cables are not arranged correctly. The setup is not yet complete. That's why I said preliminary. It's been giving me headaches the last couple years. The seller is very helpful, trying to walk me thru it. But communicating with him can be frustrating sometimes since his english is not that good. Despite all the troubles, I still like it and I think the patience is going to pay off.

On the note about GPS, I would add that if you can project your phone's screen wirelessly anyway, you can just use your phone's GPS easily, which would eliminate the issue of updating the map.

I personally don't worry about map update. It's not like they're building a new road every year or so. By the time the map becomes obsolete, so does the car. My beemer still uses map from 2008 and I never have any problem with it. Unless you're a door to door saleman, chances are you'll use GPS only a few times a month.
