New C200 Transmission Issues

Hi,

My 2015 C200 with 4000km on it has the following issues:
- Transmission harsh shifts from 1 – 2, sometimes from 2 – 3 and back down from 4 – 3. Tends to happen after the car has been driven for more than 30 mins.
- Steering wheel makes whiny noise after driving for more than 10 mins.

MB has updated TCU, re-adapted shifts on two occasions, replaced transmission oil + filter, replaced transmission shift solenoids and replaced the valve body. They still aren't able to fix it and keep returning the car to me telling me its fixed. All up its been in service for 2 weeks over the span of 2 months.

Anyone else have any issues like these?

Yes mine and every petrol C200 loaner is like this. This engine and gearbox pairing is rubbish. Won't be keeping the car because of this one thing.

Mine has improved now at 7000 miles but is still bad at shifting 1-2 and 2-3 when cold or at 50% throttle.

Very disappointing. Mb have tried all sorts.

You can adapt your driving style to work around it by lifting off before the change or avoiding 50% throttle (drive slower or quicker).

Bad you have to do this though in 2016... Issues like this shouldn't occur anymore.

Are you talking about a manual or auto transmission? My C200 petrol auto is silky smooth.

Auto. I've tried 3 and all are snatchy when cold especially. Compared to BMW transmissions these are poor. I find what one person objects to, another person doesn't seem to. Down to expectations maybe.

So you don't feel it changes gears less than smoothly at any time? What is your driving style and typical driving roads?

Normally I drive with a light foot but I do sometimes drive off from the traffic lights in sport plus mode if I think I am going to win.

Maybe it is down to perceptions but the Merc is a good as my old Ford with its Powershift transmission which I really liked.

The only thing I don't like with the Merc is that the paddle shift on the steering wheel only keeps it in the gear I have chosen for a set period then it jumps back into auto mode.

As for roads I would say mixed driving.

With a light foot mine is ok, sport plus is expectedly jerky. It's when in E or C auto modes at 30-50% throttle it becomes snatchy in 1-2 and 2-3 gear changes.

Mine is just a C200 auto as well. Transmission is not too bad when cold, but terrible when its hot.

Isn't that quite a major repair? Is there a chance that repair can damage other components?

I had this done on my DCT transmission (BMW) and it made all the difference. I'm not convinced the same will happen if I get the tranny replaced on my MB as I think it's just poor design having tried 3 other cars and felt the same.

Also, does anyone else feel a jerk when you put the car in reverse or park?

Mine has smoothed out a bit after about 7000 km. Although I figured out that if you give the car a bit more throttle from stand still, the shift points increase and eventually adapt giving you smoother 1-2 shifts.

Ditto. However I also note the issue comes back if you do some spirited driving which means it has to learn again. Logic in this gearbox is very poor.

Yeh the gearbox logic is poor, hoping they release some kind of update to make it better. Mine tends to jerk/clunk during light acceleration. Harder acceleration and full throttle tend to be alright. (unless in sport+)
