I bet you someone has the perfect setup and hasn't posted on here yet.
im gunna save you a ton of time. ive spent way too much time on it. i think the tsws and bbs CIR are the only wheels that dont require spacers (besides oem), I am sure there are others but not name brands.

I dont like any of the tsw, i think they look just ok. winter wheel set sure. but their designs are meh. IMO. completely subjective.

BBS technically has a spacer built into the front wheel so not sure if that counts as no spacer. rears bolt up.

those 2 options are 19x8 front which is prime for the c450/43. the minute you go 8.5j up front you pretty much have to lower other wise it really wont look good. its gunna poke to get the inner clearance you need.

I personally dont plan to lower and even if I did, only having 1 cardboard thickness to the arm is not enough to run on the track with IMO. I dont feel comfortable with that type of clearance.

I agree with what carlson has said, 19x8 and 19x9 fitment for this car is prime for both lowered and non lowered cars. not saying 8.5j up front is impossible cause many have done it. but if you are not lowered, track the car, dont want to rub at all (in all conditions, ie. fully loaded car with luggage going on vacation with wheels locked to a right turn and hitting a heavy bump), i would stick to 8j up front. rear 9j or 9.5j easily fit. 10j i think may be an easy fit as well but cant comment as i havent persoanlly fitted 10j up to the rear.

Look at BBS CIR or some amg replicas on ebay in 19x8 and 19x9 fitment. As long as replicas are TUV approved there shouldnt be an issue. I have found a few that say they are. Power wheels pro has very good replicas but none in 8j and 9j currently. OZ superturismo has a fitment for us. anything on tire rack should work as well although i dont prefer pretty much all of their designs except the oz wheels.

By the way, the reason I say to stick with a 9j in rear is due to tire stretch. on a 9.5j the 255 is stretched and wont match the front stretch. the 265 is better but still will look stretched compared to front.

i think niche made an 8 inch wide wheel people were using for winters as well.

unfortunately for almost all fitments you will need a spacer up front. its really not something to be scared of, just make sure its done properly and the wheel is properly centered and lugs are proper length. i personally am hunting down OEM forged 507 amg wheels. If i cant find those will most likely end up with BBS CIR as they look very similar.

run 225/40 or 235/40 up front and 255/35 or 265/35 rear. get a good quality compound. this is the biggest help. I run the Michelin pilot 4s and just are amazing!! traction is not a problem on this car, bigger tires is only good for looks as this car has no problem hooking up with 4matic. negatives of bigger tires include being more expensive, louder ride (more contact with ground), reduced fuel economy, possible rubbing, more weight. all pretty big negatives IMO. one ca argue 1 or 2 sizes up wont make that much of a difference and they are probably right, but at some point you go up to a 285 instead of a 255 and there is a pretty significant difference to all above mentioned items.

if you do end up needing spacers, H&R, 42 Draft Designs, or ECS tuning all seem to get high reviews. I personally like the H&R because the branding doesnt stand out in white like on the ecs tuning spacers and you can get them hard anodized black. 42 draft designs can custom make anything but you would want to get them anodized since they dont do that.

get the bolts and locks from otis inc LA. RAD bolts. very good oem quality. many people use H&R bolts or ecs bolts but for me i would get RAD bolts.

our fitment truly sucks. Mercedes really screwed this one up. So many aftermarket beautiful wheels in 8.5j front. but it really really makes the front end tight on our car. its not anywhere near ideal and anyone who says it is ideal is just lying.

we need HRE to come out with flow form 8 inch front fitment. but until then, goodluck to all.

one last thought, for anyone not lowering, like myself. look at all the cars who have aftermarket wheels with 8.5j up front. every single one is lowered and most are on 20s. the 20 inch wheels give slightly more clearance as they allow tire to clear the bump on control arm for the anti sway bar. thus the closest tolerance area is a fixed rim clearance. if you are on 18s or 19s, the tire is in that area and tire flex would most likely contact when trying to push wheel in as far as possible.

im done now.

just my .02 cents.

Star4life, thanks for all the info in your reply.
Oz Cir certainly would fit the bill... would like to find a slightly cheaper option though.
Perhaps I will wait and see what you end up with
All I want to do is improve the looks by copying someone's hard work and research.

Awd failure

Do you have any issues with awd from changing from stock width to 8.5” and 9.5”? I want to make sure the ecu and the awd work in sync

Awd issues

does anyone have awd issues form going stock width to wider wheels and from 18s stock wheels to 19-20” wheels? I know the MB and BMW are super sensitive with that

For as long as your wheel diameters are within 3% f/r you should be fine.

I went from stock 18's (staggered setup) to 19's (staggered yet wider wheel) and have no issues at all. As mentioned, simply keep the overall diameter the same.

What about stud conversion kits? What would you recommend for those and what length studs would you get?

My scenario is running aftermarket wheels for summer. Switching back to OEM wheels for winter.

I am looking at running the same wheels on my C450. Did you end up using the spacer? What tires and sizes did you use? Any issues?

For as long as your widths and offsets are correct based on your ride height, I don’t see why you can’t go with lipped rims.

refurbished some Mandrus Wilhelms designed to fit an early 2000's SL500. They fit but are only millimeters away from the control arm and brakes in the front
