MBUSA buyback - experience - 15c300

Last update, my part will be at dealers 11th of April (2 months at dealer).

summary: a new engine is waiting for a part to be installed. engine failed and cannot be remanufacture due to pressure loss. The culprit, piston jacket loose allowed a spark plug piece to damage piston N1. MBUSA ordered dealer to give me a new engine. That is where I am at.

I just wanted to let you know your redaction did not work - the "redacted" text still can be easily seen in grey text beneath the black boxes (without highlighting or anything).

You might want to take it down asap since your name, address, phone number, vin etc. are all visible in it.

very well written letter.

however, you really need to take that file offline ASAP.

your name, vin and address are CLEARLY visible.

please understand that a lot of people with malicious intents lurk in online forums.

the internet is best when kept anonymous, you never know what kind of creep lurks around.

Have you started the Lemon Law process with your state's AG office? At this point, that will have more impact than a letter to MB-USA.

Thanks, good suggestion, but I checked the AG's website prior and CA does not have a specific process before contacting the manufacturer if they have a program, such as the buyback from MBUSA.

What has your dealership offered to compensate you for your troubles so far...anything? Just giving you a loaner doesn't count in my book.

Free extended warranty, an incredible deal on a 2016 C300? They obviously know you're not happy about this whole ordeal, correct?

40+ days without my new Mercedes...man if I didn't at least receive some sort of buyback and/or a great deal on a 2016 model, that would be the last Mercedes I'd ever buy.

Good luck...hope Mercedes does the right thing and at least buys back your car.

The dealership is behind me to whatever extend they can and have been very responsive. It is a manufacturing defect and I am very disappointed, but it happens and this time around it happened to me.

I am requesting a replacement or buyback from MBUSA because I custom ordered my car, waited months and it was defective. This time because I don't have the same faith on the C300 engine, I am going to get the C43 coupe (paying the difference). The dealership can grant me the same discount I got on the C300 to any new car. I want what is fair, nothing more than that.

That's good to hear. My Mercedes dealership so far has treated me like gold.

Sounds fair to me, I'd ask the same if I were in your shoes. I don't care what others have said about this 2015 C300 engine debacle, but logic dictates the resale value of vehicles manufactured in that time frame would most definitely be worth less...or at least be leveraged that way from the dealership come trade-in time.

I'm in the same boat. Today is day 60 without a car for me. My dealer told me twice that they would look into a loaner but never came through. Now I know why they say "The Best or Nothing". Let's just say the struggle is real.

Unfortunately for me my car didn't go into limp mode for the first time until 13 days outside of my state's lemon law period. The last time I spoke to someone, MB doesn't know what is wrong with the car. I've requested a replacement or a buyback but haven't heard anything.

On top of it all, I don't even have possession of the paperweight to trade it in on another car.

Thank you for sharing your story! Now I know that I'm not in this alone.

I'm not waiting for the lemon law process or buy back program. I'm out of it. My car went in for the wrist pin repair (3 weeks in the shop). Got it back and had hesitation and about 1/3 horse power loss. Went back and was told there was air in the turbo lines and they fixed it and they also ordered an oxygen sensor (from Germany, don't know when it will arrive), but the sensor had nothing to do with the HP loss.

Left the dealer today and still have the hesitation and HP loss.

Today I ordered a 2016 Hyundai Genesis V6 AWD with every option. Should be here in about a week.

I have no patience for crap like this!

How is the Genesis compared to the C300? I've never driven one but am intrigued. I too want out of this car and am thinking of trading in for a 3 Series. Are you trading you C300 in? If so, what did they offer you?

It has been quite a while since an update, not that it's a popular thread, but just as important for those who may benefit from my experience.

I got a call from MBUSA case worker, than a call from the company that does the paperwork, and finally a letter stating they will buy back the car. The investigation took a few weeks, sadly my car still waiting for parts, and still at the dealer. I asked about a replacement also, waiting to hear on that.

The dealership i bout it from is not willing to give me the same discount as my original c300, granted 18% discount is a big deal, on a C450. so I am shopping around. Like many others here, I will also get a Tesla3, or C63 coupe.

One thing I wonder is if I can buy back my car once it's fixed and if the discount will be worth it. if I can buy it for less than 30k, I will do that.

Hi, just so you are aware, you can still 'click and drag' (then copy and paste into a new document) over the blacked out text and see your name and contact details... PDF is terrible for this problem.

Yep, you need specialized software to actually redact PDFs...
I actually just went ahead and did it for you (I have the software to properly perform redactios), scrubbed all of the meta-data out, and redacted a "dealer name" that you missed. I have attached the properly redacted copy here. Just repost/let me know when you've snagged it any replaced it, and I'll go back through and remove the attachment from my post.

Sorry if I'm being presumptive, but I appreciate you taking the time and effort to post this information here, and I think it's invaluable for future forum members, so I'd hate to have it removed, and I'd hate to have you go another round of inadvertently putting your information here when you value your privacy.

Not at all, I wanted to get feedback, did not realize how poor some of the popular tools are. Thank you for taking the time to do this for me.

No problem! If you have the tools and know how to use it, it's only takes a few minutes. Even though I hope that your particular post won't be helpful to me! All of the posts and everyone on the forum were invaluable to me when I was researching, negotiating, figuring out prices, etc. The pricing/discount thread alone probably saved me thousands of dollars.

I think your post with the improperly redacted pdf is still up. I can just leave my message up there with the correct version if you remove yours.

Now, hopefully I don't get a pm every other week know asking to redact stuff!

Ok, so MBUSA is looking for a replacement car to match my car closely.

"I finally heard back from Mercedes.

They will replace the vehicle if you decide to go that way. However, you would be responsible for any MSRP difference, and they wouldn’t absorb the price of the after sale accessories or their transfer to a new vehicle.

They’ve initiated the process of finding a replacement, but asked me to let them know if you decide on the buyback instead.

Let me know your thinking."

From my research, the replacement is a better deal, since the car is new and will retain value longer. However, I am also getting a tesla 3 in a couple of years.

buyback points:
- my wife wants me to get a mustang for our son, I can drive it to work on the days I commute and wait for the tesla -
- buyback includes all payments we made, the loan is paid off and we get all registration, taxes, fees, etc as well.

the bad: I will not really have a car - we have a minivan for trips, guess I can use that.

Replacement points:
- new car (new warranty) clean title.

the bad:
see above

My ideal situation would be for me to go with the buyback, than buy my own car as a lemon titled on the cheap. (not sure if that is even possible).

Almost done.

MBUSA has confirmed they will either repurchase your vehicle or replace your C300W with another C300W that has similar options. You are not being charged for the difference in the base price increase as previously explained neither will you be responsible for price increases on your options. The increase applies if the new vehicle has options that the current vehicle does not .
Both options will include a usage fee that will be deducted from your refund or that you will have to pay to the dealership directly if you would like a replacement.

Please advise how you would like me to proceed.

BTW

I have a fiberglass rear spoiler from a vendor here, I paid $500 for it, it is the best.

Also have a pedal commander, BMS got sold, many bits and pieces, I will post pictures and prices. later.
