No CarPlay, But "Hey Siri" Works Great
"Hey Siri" is a function on all IPhones 5 and up. Once activated, as long as the device is connected to power, you can give Siri commands by voice without ever touching the Home button. You just preface your comand with the phrase "Hey Siri---" and the command, all as one sentance.
Like "Hey Siri, read my emails" and she'll mute your music and start reading your most recent emails aloud over the car's speakers. Or "Hey Siri, send a text to Godzilla" and it will compose a text to your wife. (Use whatever name you have your wife listed as in your contacts.) Once it's composed it will ask permission to send.
Hey Siri can do tons of commands like accessing your music library. Like you can say "Hey Siri, play some Rush" or "Hey Siri, play Tom Sawyer".
To set up Hey Siri, go into Settings>General>Siri and turn it on. The phone needs to be connected directly to COMAND via the left USB port in the center console (vs Bluetooth Audio)if you want to access your music library via COMAND controls. It also needs to be somewhere in the cabin where its microphone can pick up your voice.
I just picked up a ProClips mount with a drop in IPhone cradle and integrated Lightning plug. Works great. Ran the cable down the inside bracket of the mount, then tucked it under the center console down the passenger side, added an extension and came up the back of the console and thru the gap in the covers. Eventually I'll do a full stealth install but very little cable shows as is.

Yep I have COMMAND which is good because I can put my phone away and focus on the road but it doesn't write texts from voice. In some situations Siri is infinitely more useful like drafting emails and scheduling calander items.

If you have the iPhone 6S, Hey Siri works without power being plugged in, but not if the phone is face down, or in your pocket. I use my Apple Watch for hey siri instead.

If you hold the microphone button on the steering wheel for about 1 sec and then release it will activate Siri. Short press activates the COMAND voice assistant. Works over bluetooth as well.

Pressing and holding the voice button the steering wheel for about 2 seconds does activate siri on our 2016 C450. 1 second and it just does the command voice activation.
I use it to speak and play texts all the time and to dictate texts.. it's VERY good.

That's a shame. Ford offered a software update last year that added Siri Eyesfree to the older Sync systems. It was user upgradable via a software download and USB installation. Benz should be able to do the same thing.

I'm sure they could, they are probably just choosing not to.
