I just found something very irritating part of C class coupe
Well, while I was looking at the review that was done by US version car and found out that weird looking thing around the license plate placed at the rear.
What the hell is that..that is ruining the whole rear part...OMG.
Can that part be taken off from the car?
I loved this car, loved the interior and exterior even though the rear end design is a bit terrible.
And I was planning to buy one next month.
now it looks worse.. it looks like a mouth without incisors..

You might be s--- outta luck, bruh. Looks like MB Coupe thing; the back of the S63 AMG has the same design.
Might have to settle for that 435 or 440i (just messin' with you )
I just looked at the German M-B web site and the European version of the Coupe does not have these "bumps". Of course, European license plates are much wider, and would not fit in between these bumps. As the rear bumper of the Coupe is sort of "scalloped out" where the license plate is mounted, my guess is that these are some sort of "bumper guards". That is, US regulations mandate that bumpers can withstand a 5 MPH hit. Without these "guards" in place, a vehicle hitting the Coupe from behind would directly hit the license plate and probably cave in the bumper. I would imagine that under the plastic, there is some sort of metal structure that provides the 5 MPH "protection". Or, they could just be ugly plastic bumps....
I have not seen a 2017 C300 coupe in person yet, but I agree that in pictures, those two extruding bumps on the rear bumper skirt look absolutely hideous compared to the European version.
Yikes!
I'm glad my U.S. sedan doesn't have those ugly rear bumper warts, but why does the U.S. spec'd coupe have those ugly things, but the U.S. sedan does not? They're both W205s, right?
Yeah, thinking about going to 435i, seems like there are lot of discounts going on. But not sure, should visit the MB dealer shop first.
Exactly.......either a 435 or 440 (if they put in the new 3.0 inline-6 like the 340i), would be nice pieces. I mean, I seriously considered a 340i 'fore MB wowed me with a super-sweet offer on the C63 trade AND the new C450 not-quite-an-AMG-no-matter-what-they-say.
(Don't laugh; yes, I got rid of the AMG after 5 years of crazy fun I know, lost my mind, right? Not really; AWD for 15-20% less power - and all the other upgrades from C400- was a fair trade.)
But all BS aside, the more look at it from that rear view, you have a valid point. Looks kinda tacky.
Question is...what corporate big shot signed off on that? Fire him or her now.

yeah, I also think it's because of the regulations, but, MB should have come up with different idea. Who ever approved that design should be fired..

It's W205, 2017 C class coupe. Not sure, but it seems like a regulation in coupes.

"Question is...what corporate big shot signed off on that? Fire him or her now." True...what the hell is that, can't believe it.
those humps are required for US 5mph bumper regulations.
all the porsches have it too..
I've done some searching. In the old days Porsche did the same thing as MB.
However, I believe that they managed the regulation by stretching the whole rear bumper further more which it doesn't ruins the whole design.

Precisely. The law's the law, but like Mike said - unlike his alleged bout with venereal warts, could've been integrated better.
Think about it. A sexually transmitted disease has enough class & decency to properly design & implement itself onto a human body, but M-B designers can't do the same on a vehicle?
I had the opportunity to witness them up close and personal at my local dealership. I can confirm that they look horrendous! Even worse on a white one they also had on the lot.
