Question on Tyres for Australian Owners.

Hi Guys, I know there might already be a post on this, if so point me in the right direction;

My W205, just at 10,000km and front tyres are worn... hmmmmm.. they don't last like they used to, My BMW F30 needed new shoes at 9,000.. I am an everyday sort of driver.. Like with the BMW, ill take the opportunity to replace the continental RFT with Non RFT's

On the BMW it did soften up the ride a bit, the overall ride on the RFT isn't too bad on the W205.

I have done a little research and am thinking of swap out to Michelin Super Sport's any feedback or suggestions on alternatives.

On balance i will ikely swap mine to Hankook Ventus s2 Evo 2's (19's).
The perfromance (as per a numbe rof euro tyre tests) is within a few percent of the very best (Conti Sport contact 6) and then the CSC5 and MPSS, but the price is 2/3 at most.

BMW fit them as original equipment too...

A set for $1k AUD or so vs $2k....

With the kms i do its a no brainer..
And they WILL NOT be run flats...

I have never been a fan of Continental CSC 5 RFT and NON.

I was quote around $1900 for staggered Michelin PSS last week, but then someone introduced me to tyresales.com.au and ended up four PSS, a car wash before I pick it up and an Uber freebie up to $30.00 all for $1500 and its at Diesel Motors new Premium Tyre fitting centre..

It will be my first time moving away from Continental.. Will see how it goes

I swapped them out for the MPSS. The difference is night and day. No thump on every speedhump and pothole. No blowing out for no reason. And the tyres are super quiet.

Jax had a Buy 4 and get $100 back, but the local guy said it was "illegal to swap run flats for non run flats" and it would void my insurance and warranty. All nonsense.

I paid $1,600 all up for all 4. I now have one Conti acting as my spare and another two doing nothing in my garage.

Your local guy is a moron....
Illegal... I hope you embarrassed him for his ignorance
And thinly veiled attempt to extort more money out of you...??

I vote moron. I hung up.

I then called my insurer who said "We don't care what you do with your wheels or tyres." Called MB who said they have to be the same size and profile for warranty.

I generally go to the tyre yard who services my dealer. He's very good and gets my the tyres same day.

Told me he gets 15 Conti blow outs a week.

Check my other posts for photos. I've had two tows in 3 months. Never had to have my W204 towed ever!

Talking of warranty - what's the dealer's response in all of this. Did they claim that you've done something wrong or could it be traced to a manufacturer fault with the Conti's?

You would hope that there's some kind of recourse warranty wise if you get two consecutive side walls splitting open like that.

Dealer couldn't care less. They basically say the tyres are doing their job.

Yeah not a fan of continentals at all, Fortunately never had a blow out.
I remember when I bought my new BMW F30 in 2012, a week after I bought it I ran over a nail and low and behold there wasn't a replacement tyre available in Australia in my size in CCS5.

Surprisingly Auto Classic's picked up the tab for a Non RFT equivalent CCS5 which I had on for a couple of months until the CCS5 RFT came into stock.

BMW did try the same thing on me when I swapped the RFT out for Non RFT.
I called the underwriter of BMW insurance and they said there would be no problem what so over swapping them to Non RFT. GO Figure.

I spoke to my service advisor at Westpoint Star this week re swapping out for Non-RFT and who they recommend, she said there was no issue...

I am happy read that, Mine are booked to go on next Wednesday.
My ride is a little harsher than expected, even with airmatic.. Interested in the difference between the two.

Do you have airmatic?

No.

Didn't even realise it was an option in Australia.

Yeah, it was first on my list when ordering, $2,500 option, I got it down to $2,100 so it was a no brainer for me
