C450 Brake Upgrade
We are getting inquiry from the owner of this new model for two piece rotor upgrade. Meantime saw some major complaint about the poor quality of the stock pads.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post6812684
And there is a member asking about upgrading his stock caliper to C63's 6 pot.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-calipers.html
Racingbrake is highly experienced on Mercedes brake upgrade, for C63 other than just two piece rotor and brake pads replacement, we designed and offered a complete BBK upgrade to Black Series with stock calipers (Our rear rotor keep C63's rear drum brake unchanged (165mm vs. BS's 180mm) - This oversized kit is 390mm front / 360mm rear and required 19" wheels.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...rakes-c63.html
All these can be done as we are expert in brake upgrade & conversion once we have the spindles identified. But just want to know if there are more interest than just a few.
Brake pad improvement RB made for SL550

Hello, I am the interested owner in a 2 pièces rotors upgrade and I will be chnaging wheels in a few weeks. My plan was to get accurate measurements of the stock rotors of c450AMG and cross verify that with the kit already available for the W204 c63 which have the same rotors sizes (360mm front 330mm rear). I will report to the RB team to determine if their existing kit would fit and if positive, I will get that done.
My wheels will take a few weeks to get from Japan so expect some news early-mid August.
Thank you,
-LP

RB is committed to offering the complete brake improvement for Mercedes; whether you are just looking for a better pad, upgrading to firmer pedal feel with SS brake lines, BBK or complete brake system, we will make sure we have them for you.
The brake pad will be the priority item in our list for C450.
We are looking for a C450 owner in Orange County to help us in this development. If you are the one please PM or call us at 714-871-6392. Chances are we already have the brakes made but need to verify and confirm them.
Thanks

I took my car to RacingBrake this morning. From what I saw, when it comes to brakes, they've got it covered.
The car on a lift with the wheels off revealed that the spindles, calipers, pads, and rotors are unique to the C450. Nothing from the current parts catalog bolts on directly. They removed my front rotors and pads, measured them up. The rotors are 2 piece with a very thin, cast steel hat only 2.6mm thick with cast iron rotor. Not separable. 28lbs. The pad is also unlike any previous pad size and shape.
The rear rotor cannot be removed from the car without removing the end link for the swaybar. That would require an alignment so they left it on the car. The parking brake is a powered solenoid and integrated into the caliper. An upgrade to a larger caliper will require a bracket to retain the OEM caliper in addition to a larger one.
If I understand their plans correctly, They will have 2 piece rotors and pads for front and rear OEM bolt-on replacement in around 3 months for around $2200. Big brake kit with 6 pot front caliper to follow. The replacement hats will be 7mm thick which will space the wheel 4.5mm further out. This will either help or hurt you if you've already made an aftermarket wheel selection.

Thanks lbowroom! Really appreciate the detailed answer. Racing Brake makes awesome products. I used them for my 2 last cars (Infiniti G37xS coupe and FX50s) and can vouch for the resilience and effeciency of their products including at the race track.
Great news!

2015 C63S
It was my fear when dealing with brakes as I had been considering picking up a set of C63 brake calipers.
My only gripe is Mercedes' decision on many models (including the GT S/GT R) to use a sliding rear caliper. I know the rear does much less of the braking but aesthetically it looks "cheap" to me, not in the "prestigious" way of thinking but the "we cut corners despite performance" sort of way.
Though to be honest that's probably just because the years have groomed me to expect a 4/2 or 6/4 or 6/6 or even a 2/1 piston combos when a car receives fixed calipers and is considered a "Sport" variant.
This in particular bugs me with their Carbon Ceramic options as well, compared to the C63 which received fixed calipers all around.

Just heard from MB dealer that replacement parts for C450 will not be released by MB until mid-August, so it would be a while until we have access to the parts sample and put them on drawing board etc.

Does that mean if I walked into the parts department at a MB dealership, I couldn't buy replacement pads for my C450 over the counter? I imagine that they must have them available for the service centers to sell as part of service, no?

Thanks to lbowroom and RacingBrake for this information.
Seems like I'll need to eat a little more crow as I figured the pads would not be unique, and they are, and if the rear rotors require more labor and an alignment to remove, brake changes are going to be more expensive than I figured....Can't wait.
By the way, for those of you new to Racing Brake, they are very well respected on other car forums I'm on for their quality stuff.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Unique for now. I suspect that the '43 brakes will have quite a bit in common across the different models. 2017 will have the debut of C43, GLC43, and E43. MB has indicated that they want to go modular across the brand. The '43s may be the first step in that direction.

Re-checked with MB parts salesperson and it appears he mixed up with one of our orders (OE calipers with long leadtime). So the parts we ordered for C450 will be delivered in a few days.

Really, you think they are going to change the brake pad on the C43 from the C450? Or are you thinking they will use the same 450 pad on the C43, GLC43, and E43? I think the latter is more likely.

Curious to find out if any aftermarket brake pads is available. Due to it's unique shape and low demand I wonder if any pad mfgr will make it, therefore it seems upgrading to C63 calipers set up is a good option.
