Buying a 2015 C300 from Hertz - worth it?
Hey everyone!
So i'm looking into purchasing a used 2015 C300 from the Hertz used cars dealership with 28k miles already on it for $25k.
I've had a 2013 C300 for 3 years now and love it so I'm really wanting to get this but the high miles is an obvious concern. That being said, I was looking into potentially buying an extended warranty to alleviate my concerns over the high miles.
Does anyone have a ballpark figure on how much this cost? I'm in Northern VA and this car is about $4,000 cheaper then any other C300 I could find.
Thoughts? And thanks in advance!

Obviously the car has a fleet registration, which nicks the CarFax a bit, plus it's likely been driven hard and poorly maintained. I managed a rental fleet and I can tell you that by necessity we were forced to rent cars out that needed oil changes. It was sometimes months before we were able to pull them out of service to get it done. Steer clear.

I would steer clear of any fleet/rental cars. I know when I drive them I beat the sh*t out of them. As mentioned above the routine maintenance was probably not kept up and not to mention the numerous tsb's like for wrist pin issue if your going to own it for the long haul that could be some serious damage done to the internals.

I would think since you are buying the car from hertz it would not have an option to be sold with a Mercedes extended warranty contract. Because when they sell those Mercedes does an inspection just as if it was a certified car to ensure there is no issues on the car. And with those miles already I can tell u working at a dealership a decent warranty will start at 4000-4500 and might be more now that this is a newer model. I checked into getting one on my wife's car 2014 c300 4matic and it was 4500 and my cost was like 1800. That being said the extended contracts are a negotiable on price

Thanks for the heads up on the rental maintenance.

If the car was sold by Billy Bob's Buy Here/Pay Here, or a rental car company, they won't touch it. But call MB in the morning and ask them to be sure.
On maintenance... I got a call over Thanksgiving weekend one year (way back when) that thirteen of our cars that were sitting for rental were stolen by a bunch of kids who figured out how to start a Dodge Shadow with a butter knife. Then they spent the next three days four-wheeling in the woods until the transaxle seized up. Then they'd go get themselves another one. They had body damage, mechanical damage. We fixed them up as cheap as possible and off to auction they went.

All,
thanks for the advice I think I'll stay clear from this one then. It's definitly tempting considering its more then 5k below KBB but not worth it if I have to spend another 2-3k on an extended warranty considering the history.

Honestly, you should stay away from the 2015 w205 altogether. Hold out a little longer, pad your budget some more, and buy a 2016 once the 2017 models are out. You'll have a better more reliable car.
Not all of the 2015s are bad, but it appears that quite a few problem cars were shipped before all of the problems were ironed out.

I'm glad you haven't had additional problems.
The new C class are nice cars but it has become clear that it took some time to get the kinks out of the production line. The 2015 models appear to have a much higher defect rate then the 2016 models. I'm glad to hear that in most cases MB is being responsive and taking care of their customers. I definitely wouldn't volunteer for that process though.
