C200 Fuel Consumption

Hi, does anyone know why I am getting high fuel consumption readings of 10l/100km and higher? Mercedes claims the C-Class does 6.0l/100km but I haven't even gotten close to that. My diesel VW does 6.0l/100km no problem. Why is a 2.0l turbocharged engine giving me readings of 10l/100km or higher?

Somethings not right as my c250 with updated ECU manages 6.4l/100 on a highway commute regularly.... 6.2 possible without much effort...

Around town or out for a run in the hills 10l/100km would be possible...

I have to drive very softly to get 7 (slowly enough to annoy other drivers) Most often it's 8-9 (circa 26mpg) around the city.

It's a C200 Petrol. Pretty poor fuel consumption on short distance drives for a 2.0L turbocharged engine. I am having to fill it up every week. Used to own a Toyota with a massive 3.5L V6 which I was filling up every week as well. So no difference. Not very happy

The issue here is claimed MPG. It's never accurate and it's why new laws and testing processes are being put down.

I admit I saw 36 claimed for mine urban and I get 26.

However I also saw the diesel version quoted at 45 and when I had a diesel loaner I got 35.

It depends on your journeys, how you drive and many more parameters.

I did smile when you said poor consumption from a 2.0 turbo.. There's still a lot of fuel squeezed in on a fair size engine.

I too am disappointed a little but I've never owned a car that does the claimed mpg so you must always expect it to be lower.

Sill cheaper than paying £1500 more for a similar diesel and then £1000 in several years time for a new DPF.

It's the length of journey that is the biggest factor with my 2 litre petrol W205.

Where I live for the first few hundred yards including a hill it is doing 7mpg (2.48km/l) Within half a mile it is doing around 17mpg. By a mile it is in the low 20's. A journey of 15 miles off the motorway and it is in the low 30's. On a long run on the motorway it can achieve around 50mpg (17.7km/l)

From day one until now some 4000 miles later I have always averaged 34 UK miles per gallon (12km/l)

My first car, a Vauxhall Chevette which would be 40 years ago did 32mpg out of a 1.2 litre petrol engine with a manual gear box.

Chances are the C is quite a lot heavier than the Chevette.

Chances are the C is quite a lot heavier and also faster than the Chevette. We can't have everything. It's still a combustion engine and is limited by its design. It's power vs efficiency vs emissions.

I think I prefer my diesel VW. Only have to fill it up every three weeks as opposed to every week with my C Class and with the same amount of driving.

You really can't compare a diesel car with petrol. Petrol will almost always be thirstiest. If economy was a big factor then you should have chosen diesel. Personally I hate the diesel sound and vibration plus DPF issues mean petrol is the best choice for me.

No, no, it's much lighter than before. My C200 is less than 1,5t.
I get 8,5-9l in the city and less than 7l on open roads. And I always drive in the Sport mode.

I am pleased I choose petrol over diesel. The engine sounds better and is quieter and the car cost less to buy and there is less to go wrong. 34mpg is acceptable in my eyes for a 2 litre engine although Mercedes claim the figure should be much better but they lie.

Mercedes don't lie. They have to publish fuel consumption figures that comply with each country's legislation. In the European Union we suffer from testing in laboratory conditions which result in figures that are typically 20% better than real world.

I drive C200 4matik, usually on highways 100-150km range trips.

Consumption depends on speed, if I drive 150km/h - it`s about 9.5l/km, 90km/h - 6.0..... I was unable to drive 60km/h to know the consumption))))))

Got 6.1l/100 on tonight's commute home...

75kms in 45mins 80% highway.. 24c clear and dry..

That's for. Chipped c250 AMG S205 wagon on 19" continue run flats...
1 year old on 14k kms...

So yeah they will do 6/100km under the right circumstances....

You thought wrong 😜

Rear wheel drive euro wagon...
AMG pack, with all options.. They spec big and charge big in Oz
It's the same m274 2l t block at 210hp ... Factory..
With the ECU and exhaust it's up to same level as c300
It also has a GFB DV+

Goes ok now.... For a daily driver....

C250 is not available in the UK so what Maniac says is partly true - at least in the UK.

Definitely, and the C220 is a lot less powerful than the C200, as well as being gruff and unpleasant.

I was a bit disappointed with the consumption of my C200, but I was driving a navara pickup beforehand, so I'm very used to spending horrific amounts of money on fuel.
