Nice torque and roll on accelaration, BUT they are not the most refined diesel powerplant out there, and the high output 2.1l 4 pot is about maxed out so forget tweaking it up without some more involved mods... DBOC tried and it wasn't there for the taking..
i doubt its a big deal anyway, gas is so cheap these days and diesel sedan demand isn't exactly huge that i'm guessing most people don't care and mercedes isn't in a huge rush

Fuel economies are only noticeable on highways. In urban CBD with start/stop traffic, the diesel fuel economy was hardly worth it.
For those of us who drive a ton for business or pleasure, 600+ miles to a tank of fuel is a real nice option you can not get with gasoline.

But diesel for city driving is a bad idea. The engine isn't designed for short trips and frequent stop and go.
Try the 3 .0l BMW diesel it's an impressive power plant...
That in the MB would be a good set up..
