Review: Burger Motorsports (BMS) Air Intake for M274 W205 C300 GLC300
Disclaimer: This review is completely independent and of my own opinion. I did not receive any compensation or solicitation from Burger Motorsports (BMS).
I've been waiting for an intake for a long time for my GLC and I've only found two options at the time, Armaspeed and some other brand I can't remember. Both very expensive carbon fiber options and didn't seem to be much different from OEM.
When the BMS came out, I wanted to try it out. With the promo price, it made it an even better deal. It honestly is relatively inexpensive compared to other parts for the car.
The install took some time at first because the AIT connector on top of the OEM airlid was terribly difficult to remove. You have to slide it out and then press on it while pulling. It is pretty tight on there. Afterwards, the airlid was pretty tight on the OEM turbo inlet tube. Turns out, you gotta just pull away and pull hard. It will come out easily.
Took me about 2 hours from start to finish including adjusting and figuring things out. If I had to do it again, less than 15 minutes probably. It is pretty simple.
I did some research on the W204 intake from BMS and there was an "issue" where the filter was too close to the engine cover and it would rub if not installed exactly to spec. Thus, BMS sells a slightly smaller filter with more clearance. I think this should have been done with the W205 also. It sits wayyyy too close to the engine cover. I adjusted it to the left as much as possible and with the filter at the best possible angle possible. It is still much too close for comfort. I can see it rubbing in the future if things get loose or more engine vibration comes into play.
Another downside to the setup is the way the AIT sensor is mounted. It is pretty loose on the filter itself. I think there could have been a better way to do this.
Finally, the finishing on the intake pipe is pretty rough. Basically looks and feels like spray painted black. The CNC bracket however is top notch. Why couldn't they finished the intake pipe the same way? Would have been wayyy nicer.
So how does it sound? The most important part right? Well it sounds pretty good. Not too loud, and doesn't even present itself if you drive normally. The sound deadening on the benz is pretty good so it won't be as loud from the inside like it is on other turbocharged cars.
So overall, it is a pretty good part for the price. I don't see it making much power, might even loose power but I got it for fun and wanted to make some more noise. If there is another intake that is released in the future, AWE or Weistec or whomever, I most likely will be open to that idea also.
Please excuse my engine bay. I live in a very high dust/dirt environment here in China. The car only has 4k KM which translates to less than 2500 miles. I'll be taking some better pics and videos in the next few days once the weather improves. But here are some early ones for reference.
Car: 2016 Mercedes Benz GLC300 (Assembled in China for Chinese Market) with M274 Engine.
Modifications: BMS Air Intake, Forge Motorsports BOV spacer, Weistec Tune

What's the weather like over there? You're in China or Japan, right? I bet that thing heat-soaks the hell out of your car in no time when the temps raise up.
I just hate looking at. I'm all for fun noise enhancers but not at the cost of performance/efficiency.
This isn't Honda-tech.com.... No offense

I'm in China.
Weather? Comparable to the east coast. Cold snowy winters and warm hot summers.
This intake will definitely be sucking in hot air in the summer. Might be a good idea to switch back to stock during that time.
I'm thinking about ways to modify this to improve it. I can get things made here pretty cheap.

If you're even just a little handy/creative, you should be able to make a decent heat shield for that. Although, the way I'm thinking I would do it, it would pretty much just look like putting the stock airbox lid back on it.

If you check out the armaspeed intake, it is exactly that. A stock like air box lid (in cf) with an intake arm (in cf) and a cone filter.
I still hope there are some other intakes that come out for for the car. But obviously there isn't a large demand for it.
However, they could make up for it since there are many cars and models globally that use the same engine setup.

Hey guys I am also trying to install a intake. How did you manage to remove the intake tube? I already loosened the clamp and pulling it straight out does not seem to work? TIA!
