Using your phone for direct Voice Commands tip

Many of the voice commands that can be performed through the COMMAND feature can be carried out by using your connected smart phone in a quicker and more direct fashion, see below:

Instead of a quick press of the Voice Command button, press and hold the button for about 3 seconds. You will here a different beep over the car speaker then you would hear from the short press that activates your phones Voice Command function. What this is doing is starting the Google Now feature from your phone (Android, or in the case of an Iphone Siri) Now you can ask your phone to do anything you would ask it directly, ie:

*call "name"

*text "name", then the message, you can say "read message" after it reads your text back, you will be given the option of sending, changing or canceling

*what time is it?

*what's the weather forecast

etc.

Doing this streamlines the same functions that the COMMAND system does

Side note:

I always connect my phone to charge when I'm in my car. I use Tasker so that when ever my phone is charging, Bluetooth is enabled and when I disconnect charging Bluetooth disconnects automatically so I don't waste the battery.

I use a flush mount USB be charger along with a coiled USB charging cable that is only about 9 inches long so that I can close the center console cover without having to plug and unplug the charger each time.

Last but not least I use the NITE ZIE magnetic phone holder with the NITE ZIE vent mounted dash attachment, clean easy and quick. All of these items can be found on Amazon. Charger, USB cable, phone magnet and vent holder can all be had for about $50

Hope it helps

This ONLY works on MY16+ cars. It's just enabling Siri etc via Bluetooth audio.

I'm sure every car manufacturer designs their Infotainment systems with different capabilities because the same phone that works like this in 2016 C300 worked exactly the same way in my 2014 BMW 4 series. Might be worth trying in pre 2016 MB's, it would just be a matter of holding the speech button for an extra 2 seconds if your connected via Bluetooth.

I wonder if it's possible to get the dealer to update the software on a MY15 year to enable this feature for command systems.

I don't think it is car or Infotainment dependent but rather phone dependent. I'm using a Samsung Note 4, try yours.

This has already been discussed in another thread with many reports of MY15 owners already trying it.
