Head up-Display

So got 2017 c300 4matic, sports pack. Premium pkg 4, with everything else. Parktronic, surroundview etc. etc. it was custom order somebody ditched.

B@$tard ordered everything in the catalog except the panaromic roof, even the illuminated sills etc. any way. I don't miss the panaromic roof.

Any way.. anyone else have the head up display?

The top part is fuzzy and bottom is clear. If I raise the seat the top becomes clearer but I like my seat low.

Had the dealer check it out, there is no adjustment and MB doesn't have any advisory on it yet.

Anyone else seen this?

It liveable but not crisp.

Have you tried adjusting the height of the HUD projection via HUD settings from the instrument cluster's display?

Yes, raising the position makes it worst.

Maybe check if there is a smudge of some sort on the screen in the dash(facing the windshield)

The HUD uses a fold away mirror assembly which tilts down when the HUD is switched off. If that mirror has the wrong alignment (i.e. angle) you would see exactly what you're describing (i.e. top being out of focus and the bottom being OK). I don't think there's any way to compensate for that, so it could just be a faulty unit. Go to the dealer and compare it to another car with HUD. If yours is different the dealer should recognise it and replace the unit.

My HUD is definitely nice and sharp from top to bottom, even on the test images.

Next visit to dealer and I will have the check it again and replace it if need be. They are pretty good with this kind of stuff.

I did a little seat adjustment and it could be just my eyesight, I do need bifocals.
Now top and bottom are same.

But I will probably go to the dealer check some HUDs to be sure.

I know right?

I was able to beat down the price because of that, worked out for me.

Learn this when I bought new polarized oakleys. Totally filtered out the HUD.

I have the same problem with my HUD. I just assumed it was the outer edge of the reflective coating not reflecting as good as the center area, or simply a distortion from the angle I sit at as you've noted. I wish there was more info displayed in the HUD. My brother's 96 pontiac showed everything in the HUD.

And yeah....i'll admit I ordered my 2015 C300 without the pano and I liked it that way lol. My 2016 has it and I never open it.

when I first got my car I spent like 6 months without opening my pano roof ( thought it was annoying to drive with it open) until some guy in my car opened it all the way

the thing transformed the car, felt different ! different in a very good way, now I have it open it all the time.

The dealer said they can replace it but no gueantee it will resolve the issue. What I dread is the dash being removed and causing other issues afterwards. Like rattles and stuff just don’t trust them doing a perfect job.
will talk to them again next week when it goes in for annual service.
only the top 1/3rd is blurry.

if I tilt my head down and look through the top of my glasses its better.
was debating is its me or the hud

i sent an email to MB and got this stupid response, see atrached

EQC 4matic AMG line Premium Plus replacing S213 220d 4matic with airmatic
think it is probably you and your glasses combo sadly. I noticed a change in the look of the hud display and its sharpness when i changed my prescription glasses. I could not achieve the same all over look however much i adjusted it. It was not sharpness as such as just looking odd compared to before. Now i am used to the new specs it seems fine. So if a non spectacled person saysbit looks sharp it probably is and it is an effect of you and the glasses. Hate getting old!
