Sometimes push to start doesn't work, letting the brake go too early?

I've had my C300 for just a little over a week now and from time to time, I notice that when I press the start button, the engine doesn't start right away. All the other warning lights come on as they normally do when starting the engine, but the engine doesn't kick in. I think it happens when I let go of the brake too early right after pressing start? Anyone else notice this? Thanks!

Yeah there is a slight delay when you push the button. Best practice is to keep your foot on the brake until the engine actually is running.

I've had, in some cases, the engine stop cranking mid-start because my foot came off the brake pedal too soon. Then you have to go through the complete cycle of the button again, etc.

The root of the issue is that when you press the button, the EIS wakes up. Then checks with the keyless go module that the key is in the car and valid. Then, it turns on the car, then checks for everything needed to start the car (brake, park position, button press, etc). Only after all this happens can the engine start signal be sent. It takes a half-second for all the modules to wake up, respond, then follow instructions.

That makes sense! I'm coming from a Honda Accord and an Acura ILX before that, I guess I just got used to just briefly placing my foot on the brake and the engine starts almost immediately after. Thank you!

Exercise caution about the engine not starting when depressing brake and button. This may be a manifestation of a problem with the transfer of electricity from battery to starter. There recently was a recall on this issue. But as the part necessary for the fix was not available, the recall is on hold. Trying several times to start the car without success can/may lead to an engine compartment fire. Check with your dealership.

Careful, as it is the repeated attempts that have been causing the electric overload and thus the fires.

It's ok, if it catches fire I have marshmallows. And it will be an excuse to tell my wife I'm buying a Porsche

incorrect. The overload is related to attempts to start a seized engine.

Thank you so much! I'll keep this in mind. It might take a while to learn, but I'll try my best.

Funny thing, although I don't have marshmallows, I wouldn't mind if the car caught fire, either. Figuring, I could get BM to go for at least a C43. The totaling fire would be their fault as they have sent out the recall notice stating that we'd have to wait for the parts to come in...

You are correct, but repeated unsuccessful starts can be due to a seized engine, which in turn will induce an overload, and thus a possible fire. And, yes, I did overlook the fact that his car does start, thus no seized engine.

2 liters, I believe. Size matters, in cars and fish stories.
