C400 Real HP Numbers Question

Hello all,

I'm new to the C400 world and have done searches regarding getting a tune for my recently purchased C400. I'm looking at the two companies that I have found do tunes, Renntech and OE. I know that Renntech is world know for working on Mercedes and located in FL. I'm in CA and know that OE is in Southern CA about 6 hours from me. I've contacted both companies for information and see that OE is higher in rating their tune. Of course I'm looking for max power on my stock car and keeping as much comfort since this is a daily driver. Seems like OE has a bit more of information on the web. My questions is the following.
How much power are these C400 putting to the ground? I saw that a stock C450 lost 100HP to the wheels on the dyno and gained 49HP after the tune on a link that OE sent me. So realistically after a tune what have you guys seen these cars push to the wheels?
Of course the following question is, WHAT tune would be best? I'm more attracted to the stated 400+ from OE, but Renntech seems to have a larger relationship with MB. How many of you have done either of these tunes with a stock sedan?

Any info will help thank you,

Alex

It seems there isn't a huge group of people with the c400 especially when it comes to modifications. I have yet to find out what the stock whps are on it as I have not yet had a change to get it dyno'ed. Every dyno sheet I've seen before and after tune was by the company and of course everyone's base whp are different. I did get the Dinantronics sports tuner ( basically a glorified boost controller) and they claimed 40hp but haven't gotten a chance to get it dyno'ed. OE tuning was the next tune I plan on getting eventually. There was one of the first tester with a c400 that got it dyno'ed before and after with the Dinan and the base whp was extremely high which seemed off to me.

Thanks for your replay. I was also looking at the Dinan since they have an authorized dealer close to me. They are a bit more expensive however, the more I read the more I want to mod my car and I’m not sure that the Dinan piggy back can accommodate changes. If I go OE I can update from stage 1 or 2 if i go with down pipes which right now I’m considering. I have a dyno down the street and I’m going to dyno my car soon before any engine mods. First thing I’m doing are springs to lower the 400. You drive a 400? How do you like the Dinan?

Yes I have a 400. So I got the first Dinan sport tuner when it first came out. Its basically a boost controller that can be controlled by an phone app which was a plus for me. There are different maps and with the Race map which is the highest setting I can feel a difference in power ( nothing insane) but at the cost of it being rough and not smooth acceleration like from factory. So cause of that fact I mostly do my driving on the stock map as I like the smoothness of the power. Now I do know Dinan has a Elite tuner which is support to be overall better as it controls more than just boost but like you mentioned its at a higher cost. Since OE tuning is in your area if I were you that's where I would go. I'm hesitant to send my ECU anywhere since I'm in Chicago and there really isn't much support out here hence the reason why I went with a piggyback. I did have some Vogtland springs but they kept bottoming out on bumps so I had to swap out back to OEM. I'm currently deciding if I should go coils. Which springs were you going to go with?

I’m waiting on some H&R’s. I’ve been reading about aligning the car after, will I need to buy an aliment kit? Once dropped I’m going to look at spacers. Tinted windows and wrap the chrome window trim, after.

Alignments are usually done at a shop. Funny thing is I basically have the exact same mod list for my 300

I'm actually going to be taking the ECU for my CLS 550 in about a week also. Jeremy is truly top notch and delivers way above what is expected! If you can't make it to the Huntington Beach area, just FedEx it, they get it first thing next day & you get it the day after that, worse case, you're down for 2 days. If I wasn't going to be in the area, I was going to ship it to them and shipping was pretty reasonable.
Anyhow, just my 2¢.
