Well, it happens that you can put the car in Neutral and leave the car, but the key has to remain in position 2. for that, enter the car, put key in position 2, and then change to N, unlock parking brake and open the door and do what you have to do, the car will not change to P automatically as long the key remains in position 2, the downside is that you can’t lock the car when key is in position 2

 

It must possible for all cars. Yesterday, I was at my independent shop, European Auto Solutions in Waltham, Mass. I saw several mechanics pushing an E-Class into the shop. It was there, because it wouldn't start! It must have come in on a flatbed truck.

 

While owning my previous car, a 2015 GLA250, I was checking tire pressure one day and dropped the valve cap under the right front wheel. I got back in the car, put it in neutral, opened the door, over-rode the emergency brake, and pushed the car back a little. I got out, put the valve cap back on, stepped back to admire my work, and the car rolled down the driveway, across the street and into a tree. $11,000. I bet you can do that with the C300.

 

Hello, seems no solution was found. I have the same issue now. Nowadays there s a wireless device called “fingerbox” which might help. It physically clicks a button upon wireless command. It could be placed on handbrake and/or start button. Has anyone tried?

 

As long as you have power, you can place the car into neutral. I had to do this in order to get my car off my driveway for the towtruck.

 

planning buy a keyless model and "fool" it with this procedure:

1-leave car on and in neutral, get out and take key with me
2-close the door (engine still running)
3- use the remote controlled finger bot to push the start-stop button and turn engine off
4- use key remote to lock the car

hopefully this will not have the parking brakes engage (because door was never opened after turning off the engine).
Could anyone test this ? ( for step 3, instead of finger bot you have a passenger not leaving the car and staying in to push the button).

 

Does it work for all cars ?

 

The last step won't work. The car will not let you lock it if the drivers door wasn't opened/closed after turning the engine off. When I leave my car running while I'm outside the car, I sometimes open the passenger door and click the start-stop button to turn the engine off. After that the key fob buttons do not work, you have to open and close the drivers door for the car to start responding to key fob inputs. The first time I thought that my key fob died when this happened. I'm not sure if other models do this but my w205 with KEYLESS START and KEYLESS - GO does.

I'm also not sure if you can turn the car off if the key fob isn't inside the car.

 

My question is why would you want the car off and locked and able to roll freely? That seems like a recipe for disaster to me.
Think about it. In this scenario you'd be relying on a wheel chock to keep it from rolling away. Someone moves the chock, car starts rolling, there is suddenly no way to stop it OR steer. Leads to accident.

Meanwhile it is very easy to have the car off and in neutral while the key is in the ignition which disables the steering lock. That allows you to push the car around and steer (either through an open door or an open window). This is useful. The previous locked scenario is not.

What am I missing?
