strange moldy smell when pano roof is open or tilted open
Anyone else have that issue? My air circulation is off, and I'll open the moon roof a little, to get some breeze in, and there is a particular odor that starts to fill the car. It's kind of like a moldy / old plastic kind of a smell. it only smells when the moon roof is open / tilted

I have the same problem. Anytime I open my sunroof, cracked or fully open, I get a really musty/moldy smell. I've read in other forums that this is pretty common. My parents Mercedes always used to have this smell as well. I started getting this smell even when everything is closed and it's raining/ muggy outside. I've read that Mercedes just like cleans out the A/C system from water buildup and crap. Also read that leaving your A/C on AUTO helps this, but it did nothing for me. I'm getting Service B done on Monday April 9th and I brought this smell up to my advisor as well. I guess I'll see what happens

Is there a source from where this smell is coming from? I couldn't find any debris around any components of the moonroof. I'd like to know if I can get rid of the smell without having to go to the dealership

I've read that if you keep your air-conditioning system on auto, it might get rid of the smell. Apparently when the air conditioning is going, the condensation builds up inside of the system and creates mold basically. I've had this smell happen in almost every Mercedes I've had in my family since I was a little kid. There is a posting on this website somewhere about Mercedes acknowledging the moldy smell but that there was not a fix for it. Basically they can do a "Band-Aid" and the smell will go away temporarily until the condensation builds up again.

I get the same smell, had it since day 1 and every time i have had it in the dealer they come up with some BS reason or excuse about it. I just gave up on getting anything accomplished from Mercedes-Benz. I am almost done with my lease, cant wait. Good luck on the smell.

Opinica is correct - there is "old stuff" up in the sunroof channels and/or drain holes.
Get up there and wipe up with a non-ammonia cleaner - or leave sunroof wide open on a hot/sunny afternoon to dry out any "old stuff" up there
