Smile Looking to join the MB family!

Hey Guys,

Like the title says, i'm looking to purchase my first MB and looking for some feedback from current owners. I currently own a 2004 Subaru STi with some upgrades (315whp/320tq) but i'm looking to get rid of her and upgrading to a more luxurious/comfortable daily driver. At the moment, the car that catches my eye the most is the 2015 C400. They're reasonably priced at around $35,000 with on average 50-70k but i'm curious to know about what their main issues are, unexpected mechanic visits, and overall view on this model. Before i get ripped apart, i know most of these questions can be answered online with some research (which i have already done), but id like to get some direct (unbiased) feedback from you guys.

P.S if youre interested in a 04 STi lmk

Thanks,
Diogo

I just bought a CPO 2015 W205 Sport. You can get also get a CPO 2017 W205 for $35k (Just saying)

Notes.
  • Buy a CPO Benz. (CPO event just started this month (May). Comes with 2 free service visits)
  • Check the engine build date on 2015 W205s for wrist pin issues. ***Engine 274.920 (LS) Modified wrist pins are installed as of engines: 274 920 E0 043259 (as of about April 20, 2015) and 274 920 30 406602 (as of about March 27, 2015). Google "LI03.10-P-060916"
  • 2015 W205s don't come with remote start. (2016 and up)
  • Some W205s have wind noise and dash rattle issues. (test drive first)
  • Sport + mode is cray cray

leaning more towards the c400, going to check one out this week. Any common mechanical issues to look out for?

All 2015s may suffer the same issues listed. Check the build date and get a CPO vehicle. An MB CPO vehicle must meet strict criteria to qualify for CPO.

You might want to also find the "MY15 C400 dealer ordering guide" and familiarize yourself with the options and codes. That way you can look at the MSRP sheet (ask dealer) for each car and see what packages are installed. Also the VMI (vehicle master inquiry) sheet has vehicle service, package and damage history. Carfax sheet and test drive it. Good Luck.

I first looked at a 2016 C450 $43k because i thought i needed a V6 and remote start, but after driving the 2015 C300 in Sport+ mode, I changed my mind and saved money.

As an owner of a 2015 C300, I'd ask you to stay away from this model year. The 2015 cars are plagued with issues. At least, that is what my experience says. Just put in a little more money and get a newer CPO. The 9 speed transmission (if you can get one in your budget) is not "confused" and is smooth shifting unlike the 7 speed in the 2015 W205s. By the way, 315 WHP on a 2004 STi is interesting as a daily driver.

Issues I faced:
1. Sunroof blinds getting stuck
2. Engine Overheating due to a Water Pump issue
3. Wrist Pin issue
4. Uneven wearing out of front tires, however hard they align the wheels. (It is still there)
5. Rattles from the dash and seats
6. Crackling speakers
7. Wind noise

  • Yes, the safest bet is to stick to 2016 and up but the cost increases.
  • W205 9 speed transmission is 2018 and up and will also cost more.
  • All those issues should be covered under the CPO.
  • Check the 2015 build date.
  • Stay away from Wrist Pin issue vehicles.

C400
I can hopefully provide some assistance here, I purchased a 2015 C400 a couple of months ago, CPO 1 owner car with 35k miles for $30k plus taxes/fees etc. I also got the 2 free services and 2% financing so I think I got a pretty good deal from my MB dealer.

its a very good car, fast, smooth and fairly economical for such a fast car. Love the interior design and materials. The exterior had too much chrome for my taste so I had it wrapped Black and put tints on the windows. So now I’m happy with exterior looks.

Coming from a RWD BMW I must say I don’t think the car is sporty enough for me in terms of handling, and I think the COMAND system is a bit clunky compared to iDrive.

Issues: main one I had was creaking from the passenger headrest which was fixed under warranty other than that the car seems good. It does have a few random rattles but they’re not too bad. Don’t think the ‘wrist pin’ issue affects the C400.

Also service from my MB dealer has been outstanding.

Good luck!
