From my experience with services I can tell you they will drive the car a bit and then let you go by saying "it's normal". At 1. service they started by short drive and looking at the exhaust and suspension, 2. only drove the car, 3. drove the car a bit and tested the suspension. Final verdict "normal".
Did anyone notice the sound is not that noticable or even it is not making it anymore after a longer drive (+ in sport+ mode anytime)?

Its getting warmer here in Southern California finally... not complaining, but this week is the first time in 41 days LA reached 70 degrees and thats unheard of.... The clunk is slightly less noticeable, not sure if the weather is a factor...

I have a knocking sound coming from the rear area on my 2018 C180-Wagon.MB services said the sound comes from the transmission(9G-TRONIC),and that sound is normal.
The knocking sound seems to have E-Class(9G-TRONIC).I can not believe this is normal.

Can anyone with manual transmission also confirm this sound?

I just got back from Germany for another business trip and my brand new C180 rental with the smaller M274 engine had the clunk as well. I do believe it had the 9G-Tronic tranny.

Hi
I have the similar clunk upon accelerating from stop, have you resolved the issue?
Thanks

Is the brake hold feature active when this occurs? Try using the brakes to activate the brake hold at the traffic lights and pump the brake 2nd time just before the light changes instead of the going for the gas to release the brake hold. The noise you may be hearing could be sound of the brake releasing when pressing the gas which is more noticeable then releasing with 2nd pump with the brake pedal.

Clunk

I have the same issue, but my clunk happens when I am turning as well. Now that the weather is warmer, the clunk has completely gone away. I’ve been into the dealership twice and they have no idea what is making the sound. It really feels like suspension popping but I’m not sure.

Did anyone notice that this clunk starts apearing after you initialy go over 50km/h. If you listen carefully you will hear similar thump when passing over 50km/h the first time after turning on the engine - this sound will come from the front left side. After that you will start getting clunk at acceleration but never before.

I usually experience the clunk within 2-3 minutes of drive and it could be i have exceeded 50km/h by then.

Any updates? I think I have a similar issue. Just noticed it today after having the car for a month. During the drive today, maybe 50% of the time at a complete stop with slight acceleration, I get a very faint clunk from what appears to be the front of the car. Only happened on today’s drive. I have not noticed it previously. Will keep an eye on it. My first impression was a break hold type mechanism. Wondering if this is just a quirk with the W205

eh just disable the stupid thing. Unplug the two prong harness from the negative battery clip and its disabled.

My clunk sound sounds exactly like this (coupe) and I can actually make it happen after driving and parking the car, then opening the door and pushing down on the outside of the A pillar and rocking the car from the outside.

After a few times of pushing down on the car the noise stops 🤔
Then it doesn't happen again until I drive the car and park again.

Can anyone confirm the noise sounds like this but more faint? (Serious)

Did you ever find out what was it? Did it go away on its own? I just bought a brand new C63S that is making the same sound and its making me nuts! MB dealer cant find what it is, they only know the sound is coming from the gearbox, or so they say.

Are you still experiencing this clunk? I've now got an appointment tomorrow with a suspension specialist to try and figure out what's going on.

The thing is, it didn't exist when the car was new so it can't be normal.

  • Again, the noise is "TOONG" and it's metallic sound.
  • It can be replicated after a drive and parking the car, then pushing against the car's A-pillar when it's parked
  • It happens especially when using the HOLD brake and then accelerating from a standstill

The dealership concluded that the sound was not normal and since they have no clue how to open up a gearbox and see whatsup in this country they just decide to replace the gearbox. After other bad experiences in the dealership such as scratch on my carbon fiber panel and the manager using his freaking clothes to clean it up I decided to sell the car to the first person that showed up and take a loss. Im buying a BMW M5. Regarding the sound, I dont know if the change of gearbox fixed it. Id bet that it didnt, knowing how the dealership operates in this country. Guy who I sold the car to just told me “ he cant feel it “
