Pano Roof Failure

Hello all, I’m new to the W205 forum but have posted often on the 221 forum. My family has recently acquired a 2015 C300 AMG Line (sport?) and we love the car. However, we ran into an issue today. I was driving the car and heard a creak from the sunroof. Not bad, but like a seal rubbing or something. So I foolishly opened the roof momentarily and the closed it. The roof almost got to the closed position and stopped. I then clicked the button again and it made a grinding noise in the front part of the roof. I then retracted it and looked to see if anything was blocking it. It was clear and I tried to close it again and still nothing. I called the dealer and left a message (closed on Sunday) but I’m worried. The car still has about three months left on the factory warranty, has only 23,500 miles and has been serviced maticulously (per the carfax) at the same dealer. This should be covered right? We still have temporary tags on the vehicle and haven’t had it a month.

Yes it's covered. Any issue is covered during the bumper to bumper period. Apparently they have issues with their sunroofs. I had to get mine fixed because it wouldn't open, and I never want a panoramic sunroof again. They're always trouble, no matter the brand.

I got my pano roof track broken on the driver side a little past 50k miles and mb literally said oops too bad your SOL. We will give you 10% off though so the total would be $3,xxx. I even have certified preowned unlimited mileage warranty but pano roof isn't covered under cpo warranty past the factory 4yr/50k. Even my 2012 kia optima sx didn't have any issues with the pano roof smh...

Yes - if you are still under Mercedes 4yr/50K new car warranty you will be covered.

Thank you! I called the dealer this morning and it’s covered under warranty. I have to bring the car in tomorrow morning. I’m also having them check out the Burmester speaker grill rattles and a slightly tougher shift from 2nd to 3rd. I’ve always heard the MB Pano roofs are nightmares but I’ve never been in one with it. Thankful my 221 had a normal sunroof now. (Though the pano looks awesome from the outside because of the black roof. )

The "issue" that has developed with the W205" is the "sunroof rail failure" - which IS covered under New Car Warranty - and IS covered under ELW extended new car warranty - but is NOT covered under CPO warranty... it's a pricey issue - and I have no idea what Mercedes CPO is trying to duck out on this specific failure..

I had the plastic piece on the bottom break into pieces. Pano still works fine but does not seal completely causing wind noise. Can anyone verify a part number or if this piece can be replaced. Only part from the ipb that might be close is the ts slide shoe 222-780-00-00-64. Stealership wants 800 plus labor to replace both rails. Spendy for a small piece of plastic

That isn’t the piece that is broken. That is just a rubber stop for the slider. I already know what needs to be replaced. Both sliders. And the head liner has to be removed as it’s screwed from the inside. Dealer cost with labor is 1700$ as they will only do both sides together whether only one side is broken or both.

I think I will not open my roof for a long time, until after my CPO warranty ends, maybe right after the extended starts.

Same issue

My pano roof is functioning, but I noticed the right shoe is detached from the rail. I opened it to check because I was hearing rattling noise from the headliner. I read MB CPO warranty and sunroof is included. Can someone confirm MB denied pano warranty repair? I also have CPO extended warranty. Wish I noticed it earlier - just over 52k miles.

Should be covered. I think MB denies broken Pano glass.

First post! - How did you go having this problem fixed? I've had the clips break in mine and hope to replace them - was it a big job for the dealers?

Cheers for the quick response. Please keep us updated as I can't find anything online to support an installation procedure. Mine was one of the first w205's delivered in Australia and therefore well out of our 3yr warranty. I'm annoyed at Mercedes because this is a thing which seems to affect a number of our cars not only in this generation of vehicles but also those prior.

My earlier response is the fix. You can not install the plastic clips on there own without replacing the entire rail. The plastic pieces have broken on one rail on my roof. If you open the roof and drive with one side only the glass will catch wind and prob cause further damage. I have yet to repair mine and just keep my roof closed for now. MB will only replace both rails. $1700 with labor. I can attach the bid from MB if you have questions. I took my pano glass off and tried to find a way to install just the plastic but you can not install it into the track without removing the slide which is attached to the rail and motor. The rails are cheaper online but MB would not confirm if they would install genuine mb parts i ordered elsewhere and not from the dealership.

205 780 02 75 $340
205 780 01 75 $340
Labor @6hrs $900
Total $1702.45

Have you or anyone else attempted to fix it themselves? Curious to find out how intensive it is.

My warranty expired 30 days ago and my right side broke just like yours... ridiculous. Corporate won’t give any leeway.

Does anyone have that roof plastic piece on the driver side?
Mine is on the passenger side and Insee most of the complaints are for a broken plastic in the passenger roof rail. I hope that rattle I hear from the rear top passenger side is from it and gets fixed, although I would hate to have my liner taken down only to fix a small part in the rail. Bad design and material selection.

Theres no way to fix it without dismantling the entire car. Mercedes requires that you buy 2 entirely new guide rails, which come with that plastic piece. I’m in the same boat. Very annoying.
